What do you guys think about them? Enoch is chewing through everything! We tried to give him a kong but he didn't seem to enjoy it. Someone mention to me cow hooves but then I heard that it could break his teeth. When he is chewing something he loves he is much more well behaved. ![:) smiley for :)](http://leerburg.com/forums/images/graemlins/default/smile.gif) Suggestions?

Hi Maisha, never could get my dogs interested in nylabones. Have you tried putting peanut butter or cream cheese in the kong? my dogs enjoy that and if you freeze it first it takes longer for them to lick it out. Also, I give my dogs natural cow ears (under supervision) and they really like them, they are lower fat and not greasy like stinky pig ears ![:) smiley for :)](http://leerburg.com/forums/images/graemlins/default/smile.gif) and there pretty big so it takes them awhile to chew them up.
Arent puppies fun!!

I can't get mine to chew on nylabones either. About the only thing he will chew on that's meant for him to chew on is a cow leg bone.
He loves to chew on the frame to the door and the steps in the garage though. He's a bit wary now that I turned the surveillance cam over there and give him a zap from the house when I see him do it. He also likes to chew the pull start rope in two on the lawn mower so it zings inside and I have to take it apart to fix it. Mine loves chewing on things he's not supposed to chew on.

Max never likes chewing on the Kong when the filling is gone, but for some reason he seems to like giving the puzzle ball a good go.
He also seems to prefer things he can chew or rip into pieces. We managed to get some unused rubber inserts for milking machines that he loved - they're all ripped apart now but he chews on the little pieces like chewing gum.
We also gave him a rugby ball that he popped in about 2 seconds but then had lot's of fun chewing it and ripping it. He still has about a 1/4 of it left, he runs around shaking it and whipping himself with it. I keep finding bits of it all over the place, he nevers seems to eat them, just pull them off chew them and spit them out.
Oh and he does have a nylabone, but he's scratched it up so much that it's quite sharp in some places now. I don't really like giving it to him anymore cos I'm worried about the sharp little bits coming off and getting stuck in his gums or something.

I've given up on the Nylabones as well. Like Rhonda says, they get so scratched up and sharp places on them that Nickie ends up with bleeding gums. Soon as I saw that, I put them up - should just throw them away I guess.

Just an FYI.
Due to their opaque color, Nylabones do not show up on x-rays.
If a dog ingests a chunk of Nylabone and develops an obstruction, the vet will only find it if exploratory surgery is performed.

One of my dogs loves nylabone products. The other one, couldn't be less interested. Cleo has a large bone shaped toy with hard white nylabone plastic on either end and blue rubber in the middle. She also loves her nylabone key ring. It is a hard plastic key ring with 3 large softish keys (red, blue and yellow).
Due to the concerns Alyssa expressed, I never let her chew either toy unattended. I always look at the toys after she plays with them to see if there are any large chunks missing.
I don't know if the color in Cleo's toys (white, red, yellow and blue) solve the x-ray problem Alyssa eluded to.
I also give Cleo cardboard boxes. She loves to attack them, shake them, prance around the house with them and shred them to pieces. She doesn't swallow the cardboard, just rips it up and spits it out. If you give your pup a box, just make sure there are no metal staples in it (obvious, but worth mentioning). Also, be prepared to pick up little pieces of cardboard from all over your house

I have four "destroyers" and two of them that are toy swallowers; though they love to rip and tear, they are rarely allowed to have the kinds of toys that can be eaten (like stuffies, soccer balls, etc).
However, I have tons of "wolf size" nylabones in my house. The dogs love them. I have two dogs that are true chewers, and two others that only chew the bones because the first two do. They turn them into toothbrushes. An individual bone will last about a month at my house. It is time to replace them when the knobs on the end are gone. I've never had a dog get chunks off of a nylabone, but I only use the actual bone toys, not any of their other products.
Another great toy is the Fantastic Ball. I believe Leerburg sells them now. I had one last through three adult dogs and four very active puppies and is still ticking. Tennis balls last about 5 minutes at my house (and they are hard on a dog's teeth). One of my dogs will sit there and chomp on his Fantastic Ball until drool starts coming out of his mouth! Orbees are good too.
None of my dogs will touch Kongs unless they have food inside.
Firehose toys last longer than regular toys. I'd say it is a good hour or two before anyone can get one open, and that's if they constantly chew it. If they play fetch with it or throw it around or play tug, it could last a while.
I have found that those cheap "foam injection" toys last incredibly long, and the dogs don't LOVE them but do play with them, especially if they squeak.
I would like to try the Orbee Tuff bones next.

Cardboard boxes are fantastic for dogs that like to pounce, rip and tear.
Ice cubes, with or without treats frozen in (peanut butter, kibble, hot dogs, fresh fruit, etc) are another good treat. I usually give these inside the crate or in the yard. I use a small plastic tub and make ice discs full of treats when I leave the dog home alone in the crate.
Danke's favorite chew toys, of course, are her large marrow bones, and her Good Cuz ball.
On the large marrow bones front, I got the butcher shop to start slicing marrow bones into 1 inch sections, so Danke doesn't destroy her teeth trying to get the marrow out of the center.

Does anyone know what nylabones are made of? And does any one have experiences with cow hooves?
