Hi everyone! this is my first post. I'm interested in getting a GSD puppy. I've done quite a bit of research and i would like to know if anyone knows of a kennel in driving distance from augusta ga.
I want a puppy from a trustworth working class breeder, pref from schIII parents that have good genetics with i.e. deep strong bite holds, great prey drive etc... look wise, i would like a puppy that is darker with hints of the dark red throughout the coat and short hair... if any one has a suggestions please let me know. Lastly, i'm active duty military so i don't have loads of money =( I'd like to find a puppy around/under 1k.
I've been looking at dogs from this site http://www.vomrongermanshepherds.com/
but i don't think they use the puppy apt test and all the dogs are not schIII but they do have 1st and 2nd gen import dogs... please let me know if anyone knows the perfect place for me!

I do not know of a kennel in your area, so can't help you there.
As far as the breeder whose link you provided, there is not one pedigree on their site. Other than taking their word for it, without pedigrees, you have no way of knowing about the working titles of their lines.
I also did not see any titles on their own dogs; may have missed them, but did look and didn't see any listed.
As far as color preferences go, I love the dark red sables, too, but I'd pick a breeder and pup for their working traits and temperament and health before I'd pick for specific color.

I have to say that I agree with Leih, the dogs look really nice, but there isn't a pedigree that I can find anywhere. They don't have much text about the dogs at all, lots and lots of pictures but not much text. Maybe I am missing something. The site was a little discouraging for me personally.
I would also suggest that you not limit your search to one area of the country, you can see video's, you can drive to see the pups and parents, I know for the right dog or bloodline I would drive(fly) across the country. I also wonder, what are your plans for your new puppy, something involving protection work but this might also help you narrow your search....there may be a kennel that has dogs that would fit you better for what you are after in the long run. All things that I guess that I would let everyone know to help you narrow your search for the right puppy.
Good Luck with your search and your eventual new puppy.

Hi Jamey,
I sometimes train with Joan who owns the kennel in your original post. Although I don't know the exact pedigree of their dogs, I can vouch for their dogs awe-inspiring working drive.
I'm sure Joan could give you more pedigree and title information than they may have posted on the website, please PM me and I can give you their contact information.

I looked into the atlanta k9 site but they don't have prices up which scares me lol. as for flying across country to find right dog. single enlisted man who just bought first home = not alot of extra money.
A breeder friend of the local sch club leader called me to tell me about a dog she had avail. 14 month old gsd with sire schIII. The family that owned him said it was to much dog for them so they wanted to sale dog for what they paid for him as a puppy (800.00), but the dog is completley untrained and i know they have sent him through training before.
well, I told the breeder that i wasn't willing to pay 800.00 for the dog because for that price i could almost buy a puppy and not have to worry about how the previous owners tried to train the dog etc. Then IMO she made it sound like i was crazy for not wanting dog. was i wrong? should i pay full price for a 14 month old that is untrained or should they be seeking less?
lastly, leena did you get your dog from von rom? They have been extemley helpfull and very quick to return my e-mails. I just wanted to ask the forum because I am new to this and would have no idea if someone was telling me the truth about thier dogs or not. I'm feel like a blind man buying a painting heh.

In my opinion, I would at least get more info 14 month old dog. You can see more of a dog's potential at 14 months versus an 8 week old puppy as a puppy can really be a crapshoot at times. Yeah, there might be issues with an older dog but barring extreme issues, they might be able to be worked around. At the very least, I would learn more about this dog before dismissing it. Just my two cents.

I'm with Ingrid...I would seriously check out the 14 month old before I bought a puppy.
