Okay i have a really nice 1.5 yr old male GSD. He has good defense drive and decent prey drive. We have tested him on the sleeve with an agitator he doesnt know. He proceeds with forward agression. Does not back down or show bad nerves when in that situation. However, sudden sounds, like pots banging or something that has dropped to the floor creating a loud noise will spook him slightly. I kinda get mixed feelings about him. But in general he is a very nice dog and learns pretty fast. Great temperament, great around kids, reserved and protective (when need be) around strangers. Anyways, thats him a in a nutshell.
My question is though, he has spurs on his hind legs. You may be able to see them if you look closely enough in the photo. I asked soemone who has been breeding German Shepherds for over 30yrs and he said that the spurs are common in some of the older working lines. But he is only 1.5 yr old. I have never seen a German Shepherd with spurs to be honest or didn't notice. He seems to be fully legit though. He is always complemented everywhere i take him so thats always good to hear. Can someone explain to me why or even IF the spurs should be there? I just don't understand. Please advise ...
They look like dew claws, havent seen them in shepherds but may just be genes.Ask your vet or one of these guys.my advise would be, that if it is in the genes leave them alone. Its just another nail.

I had an old ddr dog that had the rear leg dew claws his pups would some times show up with them. I would have them removed, that male ripped his open bad once. Cost more to fix the tear than to have them removed
WHEN I SEE SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL, I'D BE WILLING TO DIE PROTECTING IT.
Thanks guys for the help. I was reading up alittle about this and it seems a small percentage of GSD get them. Pardon my english calling it "spurs" I had dew claws riding right on the tip of my tounge but couldn't get it out for some reason. Dew Claws, there.
