I am located in Northern Alabama, Huntsville/Decatur area. Where are you located? I am a OB trainer looking to learn about PP and SAR. What type of training group are you involved with.
I wish you were closer. I sometimes meet with several k-9 officers who have dual purpose dogs. About 80% of the work is narcotics, with 10% apprehension/transport, and 10% handler protection, the latter being all that interests me, other than OB. I would like to find several PPD owners who can meet with real frequency, get some collective momentum, and hopefully, look at starting a PSA chapter, or local Schutz. type group. It's a bit frustrating as I cannot find anyone with a good bite suit for decoy work. I'm hoping the search will be over before too long!
Where are you located? Birmingham is about an 1 1/2 hours away and Montgomery is about 4 hours away. I am willing to drive 3 hours. There are no Schutzhund groups in my area and I have been looking for a club for over a year. All the local kennel club has to offer is agility which I will be participating in the beginning of next year. Right now I do board and trains for OB for clients but have been looking for an experienced trainer in PP and Police K9 to work with and hopefully learn from.
I live in Montgomery and have been involved with training police service dogs for over 20 years and I have run into the same problem as you. When I returned to training after a lengthy break I found that most of my old contacts had moved on. However, I have a friend just north of B'ham that is one of the best I know in the business. Numerous world titles,USA and national titles but the travel time is still alittle tough to do several times a week.
