I took a doe with my bow 2 weeks ago. 24 yard shot.
This is my 3rd deer to ever get with a bow. Also the first deer that I have ever taken that was not over bait. I have nothing against legal baiting, but have to say that this is more satisfying. Definitely tougher.
Does a bow kill them first shot?
Farm girl here, used to chopping heads off ducks and stuff, but something about hunting deer, I don't like. Beautiful animals I guess, personally, I could only shoot them with a camera.

Wellll...
I SEE a lot of deer every single day that I COULD kill from the chair I'm sitting in now. Does that count?
I did trap and kill an enormous grey rat that was living under my house and who ate up the wires in my car. It was a hunt and he is dead so I'm thinking it was a success...

Yes, if you shoot them where it counts, it does not matter what you shoot them with. A good shot is a good shot, and a bad one is a bad one, no matter what you shoot with.
Sometimes the bow even spooks them less from the lack of noise. I have seen, on video, a deer get shot straight through the vitals and then go right back to eating, only to "fall asleep" about 15-20 seconds later.

I got skunked my first day. All does in a 2 pt min zone. Then wouldn't it figure I saw a nice three point on my way home sleeping in a cow field... mocking me.
At least it didn't rain. I'll be trying again soon.

Gave you the middle hoof, eh?
I just got off the phone with my brother-in-law. He tried to draw on 3 turkeys and got busted.
An hour later 7 doe started feeding his way and got about 15 yards away. He flung an arrow at one and it hit dirt at her feet. 10 minutes later they all came back. He shot again....dirt went flying at her feet.
Needless to say, he is doing a sight check tomorrow.
Baiting is illegal in my state, although mineral blocks and food plots are allowed. It is bow season here, but I don't bow hunt anymore. Don't have the accuracy anymore and the needed strength to break and hold the bow. Our gun season starts Nov 15 and goes through Nov 25. Then black powder season starts right after Thanksgiving. I do black powder hunt. We hunt on our own farm, so I don't even squirrel hunt the last couple weeks before season so as not to stir things up too much. I'll report in when I have something interesting. (Hopefully I will)
The boyfriend got this little 6 point on our property the other day. He shot him twice: the first time right under the spine, the deer ran about 20 yards and then came back; the second time it ended up going straight through the heart.
I hope we are allowed to post to Shutterfly links, if not I'm sorry.
That was one of the smallest bucks we have. I wish he would have waited for one of the bigger ones, but it was his first buck with a bow and he got excited. There are still plenty of big ones though!
I'm pretty pumped to have fresh meat in the freezer again!
