LA County Dept. of Animal Services will not license our dog because she was vaccinated for rabies in Taiwan. They want her to have another rabies vaccination here in LA County.
April 1, 2008 our puppy Layla received her vaccinations in Taiwan.
These were:
Distemper, canine hepatitis, tracheobronchoeitis, parainfluenza, parvovirus enteritus, leptospirosis, hemorhagic leterus, coronavirus
Anyone have any thoughts on the safety of having another rabies vaccination so soon after the first one.
Either see if a vet will do a titer, or if the vet will just give you paperwork stating that the dog has been vaccinated, excluding the fact that it took place OCONUS.
You should be able to find a vet that will give you the paper work.
If not then i would not register them tell they are due for there rabies tell the city they dieds thats what my city thinks cause I refuse to vacinate for rabies or anything else for that matter

Here's what the LA County web site says about vaccinations:
"Vaccination Requirements: Rabies vaccinations are required for all dogs 4 months of age or older. Failure to comply may result in a citation and a court appearance. Vaccinations must be valid for the entire licensing period. (Calif. Health and Safety Code, Sec. 1920 and County Code Title 10, Sec. 10.20.220)
I didn't see anything about vaccines given in other countries being unacceptable.
Furthermore, we had a lot of military clients at our hospital...many of whom received vaccines overseas. I don't recall any of them having a problem. You do have to have a rabies certificate, or some kind of paper, that shows the vaccine manufacturer, Lot number, expiration date, date given and where, etc.
We had the rabies titer done and will know within a month. I have communicated with LA Animal Services via email as their phone message system, well, it's pretty bad. I am hoping that, if the titer proves scientifically that the vaccine is present in her system at the "legal" limit LA Animal Servs. will license Layla. If they do not license her, I'll tell Animal Services that we're returning her to to boarding facility.
