I'm not sure what to do about my extremely picky dog. When Loki came to us, he had spent his first year of life eating scraps and whatever food was handy for people to give him, and it's a pain to get him to eat. First we tried to give him kibble, but he wouldn't touch that unless it came from my hand. After three days of not eating we gave him two raw chicken legs and he really seemed to like them. He ate very well for a few days, but he lost all interest in chicken when we added a pinch of ground beef in his bowl o.O Now he nibbles at the chicken a little and then just lies down. We take the food away after ten minutes but it doesn't have any effect. We have also tried liver, he licks it but doesn't eat it. Anyone else have a picky dog?

How old is he? New to you? When? When did he last have a vet exam?
How is his weight? Is he losing weight? What is his exercise like?

Along with all of Connie's questions, keep in mind that you have had this dog for 9 days.
After he is cleared for health, just give him time to adjust. Don't hover or let him even start to think that you are paying attention to his eating.
He is still adjusting to his new home. I'm not saying that you should starve him 'til he eats. Don't worry, relax, and he may just follow your lead.
Above all, do follow through with Connie's questions and make sure all is well with his health.

He's one year old and we are going to the vet on Monday. He doesn't seem to have lost any weight since we got him, but I can't be 100% sure. I take him out several times a day to walk and then we go for at least an hour a day to a cemetery near by to play and run so he's getting exercise. We don't bother him after his food is in the crate. I'm just paranoid I guess cause he seems so happy and energetic and then he ignores the food.

After the vet visit, post back with the outcome. You'll want to record his weight, too.
"Happy and energetic" are good signs.
Meanwhile, you might want to get a few days' worth of a high-quality canned food (like Wellness or Newman's Own Organics or California Naturals) because it's a balanced diet and you probably don't have the raw diet down yet, and because most dogs love canned food; then after you see the vet, you might consider his long-term diet. We can help with a balanced raw diet.

No, you're fine. Its good to stay on top of things.
I'm never paranoid about anything, especially my dog. You could ask my wife and family, but they would all tell lies and say I was. They don't know what they are talking about.

Update on Loki finally. He is perfectly healthy No worms, no fleas, good weight, clean ears and perfect teeth. He liked the canned food a lot and ate well over the weekend. I really want him to be on a raw diet, ever since I first heard of it it just made so much sense. Now I just need some help getting him started on it.
