I exercise my dogs every day in a kid's baseball diamond that is fully fenced. Apparently it has become a pretty popular place for the local dog owners. Lately I have noticed poop everywhere, you can hardly walk in there without stepping in it, and today there were 3 holes that someone had let their dog dig. These holes are about a foot and a half across, and one of them is in the sand right in the diamond.
I'm sure the parents of the kids who play games there will appreciate it.
Some of the guys from the Sheriff's department have stopped to talk with me when I have been there with the dogs, so they know I use it frequently. I am concerned that I will be blamed for destruction of property.
What is wrong with people?
Sorry for the rant, this really angers me.

Our local baseball field is off limits to roaming dogs and their owners for this exact reason. A bunch of A-holes that don't know how to keep an eye on the dog and clean up after it. The city cemetery is also off limits too. It is always the bad apple that ruins it for everyone. In your case it sounds like many bad apples!

Personally if it were me and I valued this place I'd clean it up even if it were not my dog making the mess. It sucks but you're right, a few bad apples screws it up for everyone.
I may in fact if it becomes an issue volunteer to help maintain the baseball area for kids and your dog. Usually the parks dept is starving for volunteers year round. That can go a long long way with city officials.

Me too. Another thing is that you (and I) can quietly be an example.
Funny that that EXACT situation is happening here.

I have picked up poop there before because I know if the city sees the place like that it will be locked up. Seeing those holes there today just really threw me, I couldn't believe it.
You are both absolutely right, though. I need the place, and maybe if some of these people see me cleaning up after their dogs it will help.
Thanks for helping me see clearly!

I use a local baseball/recreation field also for obedience and tracking practice during the week. I don't want to loose the priviledge of using it freely so I pick up any poop I find.
For the record, I potty my dog elsewhere as that is my alternate "training field".

Yep,
Went through the very same thing here, only I couldn't keep up.
They shut it off to dogs, and I don't blame them. The sand infield had been dug up, the base foundations had been dug out, and if I was still played ball I wouldn't dare try for a diving catch on that field. No matter how hard I tried to be custodian for everybody else, I gave up using the space all togather; I wasn't getting any training done, only acting as clean up crew.
Now I'm being very vocal (and unpopular) about dogs under no control, and owners without even a dog leash! That is, IF by happenstance the dog does return on a recall.
All of the regulars give us a wide berth by now though.
Dear Abby,
No one likes me.
Signed,
Not sorry

I have that problem.
And it really sucks when I m playing fetch and the ball happens to land in a pile! End of the game for us because of course Tucker's not going to touch the ball after that! So now i resort to bringing 2 balls & extra plastic bags with us, pick an area that we will be playing fetch in and do a quick scan around and pick up anything in that particular area. Its a bit of a pain, but it's the only close park that's fenced in so it's either that, or no fetch!
Don't complain....TRAIN!!! |

Fortuneatly we have a nice wooded park with trails in it where dog owners love to take their dogs. We all seem to be great about picking up poop, no matter who's it is. We have a system where we have a trash can at the trail head comming in off the street. We all bag our dogs poop but If it isn't near the trash can and we for whatever reason cannot carry it, we can leave it where it is and someone else will bring it to the trash can. It works only because we ALL do it for eachother. I have on many occassions picked up someone elses baggy and others have returned the favor. It's a very nice, silent agreement. and at least the poop that is left around is easily identifiable in bags and easy to clean up.
Now!... If ONLY THEY COULD STOP WALKING THEIR DOGS OFF LEASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GRRRRR!R!!!!!!!!
