I posted this is a couple other areas but I did not get much response.....So I thought I would try again here...
I also want to say that our dog is also a house dog.......
I ask this question to hear comments from some expieriance....
I entered the sport of Schutzhund this year and I love it, but the GSD I have now will not be with me much longer and I am in search of a puppy... I have only owned Males in the past and I have done well with the male I have now but I am being told that I may want to consider a female this time around...
I won't go into the reasons I heard at this point I will wait to hear what some of the opinions are....
Whats the reason someone is recommending a female this time? I had read that in broad general terms a female can be less of a one person dog and have a little more of a relationship with every member of the family. That isnt really true with our female Lab. She has always been my wifes. Our first Rott was just the opposite, a male who would do anything for any of us. I see females training and they have plenty of drive and enough confidence to work and title. But I keep ending up with males.
Additionally there are members on here with females certified in things like Search and Rescue, Cadaver, arson, narcotics detection and titled in bitework sports.
Just make sure you get a dog from a good, reputable working kennel with good bloodlines, and I don't think it matters what sex the dog is. if it has the drive, it will work. Will you be getting another German Shepherd?
