Does anyone have problems supplementing with fish oil?
My dog breaks out in hives and gets runny diarrhea.
He can't handle fish of any kind. Since it is stongly recommended
as a supplement for omega 3 faaty acids what should I try as a replacement?

I haven't had that problem. But there are plant-based oils that you might try...flaxseed oil is one common one, and borage oil is another less common one. As with anything else, start with a small dose to see if there are any negative reactions.
I could be mistaken (I often am!) but I believe that grass-fed red meat (such as bison or some expensive varietites of beef) are also natural sources of Omegas. Others may know more about that.

Always learning,

That is unusual. Was this capsules? (Gelatin allergies are not uncommon.)

My younger brother has the same issue. He's allergic to all things in the great big sea. He gets other omega sources like the omega 3 eggs and flax seed oil. Just do a google search and you can find lots of other ways to get omega 3s into a diet.
Fish oil is usually the best way to get it there though.

The 3s in eggs are from flax.
Unfortunately, flax oil is not as useful to dogs as it is to humans, who are able (on a limited basis) to convert those short-chain 3s into long-chain. Dogs are not.
Still, some 3s are better than none.
P.S. I would probably trial pharmaceutical molecularly distilled fish oil under a vet's supervision, because I feel so strongly about marine 3s for dogs.
I feed lots of venison and beef with chicken bones. I tried Flaxseed (the expensive kind cold pressed and organic)but he was put off by the taste and I wasnt sure how much to give. I would just dribble it on the meat. I also tried olive oil which he liked. Would that be good?
Okay Connie I found Orthho-Omega Fish Oil searching the web.
It is molecularly distilled and burp free! It is $68 for 180 capsules. Think they can give me 1 to just try it? lol
