I didn't inherit the shopping gene...give me a credit card and a computer and I can happiliy shop up to my limit, but actually having to go to stores and shop? I hate it. I guess I'm a disgrace to my gender, since I'm female.
So, the very last place you'd ever find me on Black Friday is out at the stores or malls, and if possible, I just stay as far away as possible from any related traffic. The whole thing just makes me nuts.
I can't get this WalMart thing out of my mind...yes, I get mob mentality, but charging the barriers, tearing down the doors, then trampling some poor schmuck who's just trying to make some money...and a young guy, too! (At first, I assumed it was one of those Greeter folks...a senior probably...)
People are frigging nuts.
As long as I'm on the topic of things that make me nuts<g>, I must add that I'm getting sick and tired of hearing about how the American public is not doing it's job by increasing spending to help the retail sector in our current financial crisis. On the one hand, they talk about the whole credit debt crisis, and about how people need to be more responsible about not spending beyond their means, then on the other hand, they seem to want us to continue this disastrous practice of buying...whether it can be afforded or not...to help the economy. Kind of makes me want to get out a gun and shoot the radio, TV, well, I guess it would also have to be the computer, my truck radio...while I'm at it, some of the stupid commentators...
(I know what you're thinking...lot of nerve, bashing WalMart Thugs then fantasizing about being one myself<g>...)
The smartest thing I've heard about this so far is that it's going to have to be business spending that saves us this time around, not consumers.
One thing is for sure; there is no end of things that will make you nuts if you let them. That's probably one reason why God made dogs ...screw the world, let's go hike and play...

There was also a pregnant woman involved (supposedly), she was reported as okay.
I agree that the whole thing is maddening.
A young man had his life taken because of the greed of others.
I am sure there will be a reason found to sue Wal-Mart though.....

You're right, Carol...can't expect people to act like mature adults, blame it all on the store.
OTOH, I hope the stores have learned something from this, too...if you want 2000 shoppers waiting in your parking lot to spend their money, perhaps you'd better prepare accordingly.

I agree with this as well. I think if they are going to allow things like this, they DO need to have security or some organized way of keeping the chaos to a minimum.

Here's a link about the event please check your URL bbcode syntax!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TqZSulclZd0&feature=related. Yea, people are taking things more and more to the extreme now days, but times really are hard. I'm sure there are a lot of people wondering how they are even going to do Christmas with all the debt and so little money. When I see things like this it makes me sad...
We don't even shop at walmat because of how they treat their workers and the effect they have on the community.

If you haven't seen the movie "Walmart: The high cost of low prices" you should. The whole movie is on youtube, it's broken up into 11 parts... Here's a link to the first one please check your URL bbcode syntax!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GINui9LdIQ
Just my 2 cents!

There was one on the other night from England, a mall that had some kinda oversized coupons or something that everyone came in and scrambled for. In spite of the fights and injuries the manager thought it went well and the customers "quite enjoyed it" I think retail in general has gone off the deep end.

Guess I'm not all that surprised, given the soccer mob mentality over the pond<g>. In fact, our WalMart incident must seem pretty tame to people used to trampling many at a time.
Sheesh...

David, I don't shop at WM either, but I sure do understand people needing to do so.
And, yes, the whole situation is so sad...

Yes I know, most of my friends do... But I still try to get them to go elsewhere whenever possible!

Somebody DIED?! Holy crap! I guess I'm pretty 'out of the loop'. I am SO not a fan of shopping, especially at a discount store...yuck. To think that people were injured and KILLED by a mob intending to do just that is disgusting in ways I can't verbalize. How horrible.
I agree: the magic formula for me is the computer and a credit card. And whatever happened to spending the money to buy quality, and then taking care of it? I'm not a big WM shopper. I'm not much for the 'cheapfest'.
Greed is always ugly.
