Hello, after all the reading on the site I have finally decided to take the plunge and go with raw! I'm very excited. She's eating Innova large breed puppy at the moment but I was wondering if anyone had a problem with feeding some kibble and raw at the same time?
Also and most importantly, anyone ( maybe some of you are in central IL )know of any places that supply chicken parts and other meats for cheap? I've called the local meat places and it seems they don't even provide necks/backs of chickens and their whole chickens are expensive.
Feeding it in separate meals? A lot of people here do that. I did it for a short time. So long as they are separate meals, and even then there is a tiny chance that it may aggravate your dogs stomach. I doubt it, though.
It takes courage to switch. I don't know about you, but this was completely alien to me when I heard of it.
Yeah, I read you could do it seperatley and I'd be willing to go that route if need be.
All my life we've had dogs and my parents always bought them the cheapest dog food. I've always felt horrible. When I moved out I could finally feed what I wanted and have bought higher quality food since. Raw was something I was interested in the moment I first read about it.

I'm not anywhere close to your area, so don't know what you've got available.
What grocery stores do you have available? BIG chain stores are less likely to get stuff like that. Locally owned stores are your best bet, but that doesn't mean you are out of luck if there aren't any.
Ethnic markets nearby?
Somebody can get them. It is just a matter of them getting off their butts and ordering them. You'll find someone that is willing to cooperate.
Call your local meat markets and ask them who their distributor is. If you can find a distributor that does their own cutting and packaging, they should be able to get you what you want for really cheap.
Otherwise, the distributor can probably still order it. I pay $12 for 40 pounds of chicken backs, and $28 for 30 pounds of turkey necks. If they are much higher than this, they are probably making a healthy profit. I would hint to them that you won't be buying from them unless they are around this price range. You don't want the guy on the other end of the phone getting dollar signs in his eyes and throwing out a huge number. Go to http://www.mnrawbuyers.com and check out their prices to give you an idea of what you should be paying.
If you haven't developed your diet yet, you might want to check out this page for a good starting point:

And your chances of deals improve immeasurably when you ask a butcher who knows you as a loyal customer.

I may be out of luck then...But I'll see if I can call around.

Well, you must buy food somewhere.
I didn't mean a separate butcher shop. I just meant that if you ask the butcher wherever you usually shop, there will be more of a desire to help a known customer.
