Hello... I have a 7 and half month old GSD... he is in Schutzhund training... have been since age of three months... He has fantastic temperament but occasionally very testy... clearly comes with his age... I need a e-collar to clean up some of his misbehaving and slow responses... once, off leash, am worried that he will chase anything that stimulates him as he has done in the past with no reaction from my commands... so I need opinion onto what is better choice, Tri-tronics Pro 500 G2 or the Dogtra 3500NCP Super-X for me to purchase... I thank you in advance...
I have only limited experience with Tri-tronics. The one I had was a cheap (forget the model) $89 job. Setting the level was difficult because you had to open the case and set a series of switches. It also didn't last long. Within a month it was malfunctioning. I wasn't pleased with it at all but I also haven't tried out any of the more serious Tri-tronics models. No doubt they are much better quality.
I now own a Dogtra 1900 and find it of excellent quality. The LCD screen showing the level is easy to read and leaves no doubt what level stim you are using. It's also has a good solid feel to the hand held part of the unit. Only problem I've had so far is the clip accessory that lets you attach the remote to your belt by a cell phone clip has broken while I was in heavy brush. Other than that it's been an excellent e-collar.
I have the Tri-Troncis Pro 100 (previous model, not the current one). I do really like it. It is easy to use with a simple turn dial to set the level.
However, I don't like the HUGE transmitter. It is heavy and bulky making it inconvenient to lug around and difficult to hide from a dog. I also like the LCD screen the Dogtra offers.
I like my Tri-Tronics, but would really like to try a Dogtra when I can afford to.
I have own a Dogtra 3200 and love it. Perviously I owned an Innotek and am much more satisfied with the Dogtra. The LED screen, micro adjustments and range make it an excellent product.
Thank you all for your posts... I went with the Tri-Tronics Field 90 series... The Tri-Tronics rep suggested this as a better approach than the Pro 500 G2...
simply because the Field 90 series is more than enough for one dog training and the Pro 500 G2 has so many different settings that it is ideal for a person or trainer who is training many different dogs with different temperaments... the six different levels of stimulation from the field 90 series is once again more than enough stimulation to train a single dog with..
I know the difference in the two, was just wondering about his reasoning. Makes sense to me. I do train multiple dogs, so I guess I am still stuck with the more expensive collars
I still want to try the Dogtra ... even though I love my Tri-Tronics.
