New member, here. We adopted a dog from a GSD rescue about a year ago. Since that time we've occasionally had questions as to whether the dog was a GSD (not exacty sure why). We believe it to be, and were told it was by the rescue, but I was curious to hear other opinions.
Dog has no papers, being a rescue, but seems to have a GSD-like temperment. Good watch dog with protective instinct, has a very strong prey drive, and is a very high-energy and intelligent dog.
I've attached a picture from last year--she is approximately 10-11 mos. old here. Any reason to think she might not be a GSD based on appearance?
Probably because many people think GSD's only come in black and tan saddleback.
Most people think my black and brindle dog is a GSD mix because he has the saddleback pattern and is kind of longish in the body. He has absolutely NO German Shepherd (or any other kind of shepherd) in his ancestry.
Also your dog doesn't have the tail that reaches the ground (like the show dogs have).
About the color, that's what I suspected. The only other thing I could think of is that her lower lip is a little loose and droopy when her mouth is closed, kind of hangs down in a little pouch at the back of her lower jaw. I've seen this in one or two other dogs before, but many GSDs seem to have really tight lips. It's probably normal, but I'm no expert.
