Hello Everyone:
Well I have spent the morning reading here and other sites to figure out what to do with my 12 month old female GSD.
It started out with pudding stools, and has progressed from a mucusy, yellow brown to now watery and some presence of blood!
Looks like fresh blood as it is a bright cranberry.
All yesterday I gave her only boiled chicken and rice with pumpkin in it. Also I had some Endosorb that I had from when she was a puppy and she had some diarrhea once.
Also, have had her on good probiotics as well as plain Kefir and her diarrhea is still happening.
Today I am fasting her, and have started to administer plain unflavored Pedialyte mixed with very low sodium chicken broth to keep her hydrated.
Her energy is good, full of play drive, no vomiting.
My question is with t he presence of blood in her stool, should I be getting her into the emergency vet today(Sunday) or can I just watch her, keep her on the fast and hydration and wait and see for tomorrow? I would have thought that the Endosorb would have helped her.
We have another pup, and so far he is just fine and has not had any problems yet.
I have been feeding an all raw diet of RMB's, muscle meat, Honest Kitchen, and Vit. E, Grizzley salmon oil, Kefir, and even some Digest Blend as supplements.
Your advice is much appreciated. I am getting worried.
Thanks!
Joyce

How much blood?
All bright red specks? None at all that's dark?
(This is in response to "e-vet today or regular tomorrow," not to whether you need a vet at all; you do, IMO.)

Also, when did the pudding diarrhea start?

The pudding stool started Friday, and then became watery last night. I think that the blood appeared more brown/red, and just now seems a bit more red, however can see specks of it,like droplets.

So then it acts like maybe the blood from straining with diarrhea (NOT saying that's what it is, of course).....
I have other questions, like whether the dog progressed from pudding to liquid while being fasted or while on rice/Pedialyte or what, but for the main question about the blood: This is strictly my opinion, and I am not a health professional, but if I saw no real blood flow except bright droplets, I'd watch the dog carefully today and tonight and call the vet first thing tomorrow.
Also, I would boil up some white rice for ages and squeeze it through a sieve and give the water to the dog, with a little of your no-salt-added broth.
I'd give just this for the whole rest of the day.
Also, the re-intro to real food after this is resolved -- that is a slow, small-meal, fat-free process at first, with good poops achieved before moving to the next step.
But let's get through this.

P.S. I'd watch the dog for lethargy, pain, etc. Water-diarrhea is something to watch carefully, even for an adult dog.

I for sure will get into the vet first thing tomorrow morning, I was just worried about the blood and needed some advice if I should not wait until tomorrow.
I bought some baby rice cereal, could I make that really soupy and give that to her tonight?
I can tell she is hungry.
I will get a fecal at the vet tomorrow and see if it is anything there.
As always, Thank you Connie, it sure helps to have your advice.
I will let you know how this turns out tomorrow.

I'm just guessing here, but yeah, that infant dry cereal is so fine-textured, I'd feel OK giving that as thin soup (in this case, where you're really trying to fast the dog, but to get the rice water in there).
I must remember to pick up a box of that to keep on hand.
I do keep rice water in the freezer now, though.

I did not start to fast her until I started to see the watery diarrhea. Because she was not responding to the all rice and chicken yesterday, I decided that I should rest her intestines today and see how that went first.
She is still acting playful and not lethargic but I will continue to keep a watchful eye for the rest of today.

Rice water on hand, that sounds like a good idea.
I just got the rice cereal because I read about it on another thread and though it would work for this situation.
If she wasn't so full of energy, I would be a bit more concerned, but the blood really scared me.
Usually the pumpkin and rice does the trick for diarrhea, so that is another concern.
