Tonight I really appreciated my dogs having low barks and being of the large variety.
Some guy came to my door as I'm sitting here browsing through the forum, and promptly backed up a good few feet as Dixon and Jake let him know that he was a stranger by barking through the screen door. I had to send them to their crates to hear what he was trying to say still working on that quiet command...
Apparently he and his pal (in the pickup at the curb) were selling "premium steaks and chickens" out of a chest freezer in the back of their pickup at a discounted price. Tonight only. I politely declined, but how weird is that? It may very well be a meat delivery guy who was trying to sell an extra lot, but...
Maybe I'm too paranoid and me and the boys just missed out on some nice rib-eyes on the cheap .
I am glad that my dogs are here to at least put on a good show. I know I'm repeating myself but that was just too weird.
The only "salesmen" I've ever seen like that were actually trying to sell us a freezer that they would stock for us a couple of times a year at incredible discounts of course.
Carolyn, that is really weird. You just can't go wrong with not only trusting your own instincts but your dogs as well.
If they were selling meat, I would be very suspicious of the quality and the freshness. I just wouldn't want to risk any of it.
Did they say where the meat was from? A near by farm or what?
You are not paranoid, you are smart!
I would have done the same thing.
I would have passed on the meat as well!
I always appreciate the show my dogs put on when a stranger is at the door. I wouldn't count on them to do anything if it came down to it, but I have seen more than one salesman/weirdo back down my stairs and stand perfectly still while the dogs did their thing at the door.
We have those same freaks here in Wisconsin. They usually say that they had an extra lot of boxes full of meat of one sort or another. You can get it at this very discounted price....but you have to buy the whole box, which may very well cost you $200.
I usually let the dogs head peek out the door, as I act like I am having a hard time holding him back and nicely tell them I am not interested.....by the time the dog "gets away from me" they are in the car and half way down the driveway
So if they are in TX and Wis, I wonder what the deal is?
