an SUV hit me tonight on my run! thank goodness the dogs weren't with me!!!!
i stopped at a red light. the light turns green FOR ME, i wait for a bus turning right to finish turning, the light has been green for me and another pedestrian for awhile, the SUV behind the bus stops and sits there, so i start running and enter the intersection because i had the right of way, the green, and he had been sitting there stopped for awhile at his red. he, obviously looking at traffic to the left and not in front of him, gunned his SUV right into me.
i had enough time to scream, hit his car with my hand and try to move as much as possible, but i had a huge SUV mark on my running tights and a bruised elbow.
if i'd had my phone with me i would've called the cops and had him charged. instead, b/c i can have a very bad temper when the timing's right (say, a car hitting me), i uh....wasn't very nice to him or his SUV. i think i scared him....but i am so mad! i hate living in the suburbs! i moved up here to have more space and a yard for the dogs, and a bungalow for teagan b/c of her HD, and people up here seem to think that they can ignore pedestrian right of ways all the time, they drive like retarded monkeys with serious self-absorption issues! i need to move back downtown where drivers, while not perfect, get that there are pedestrians and don't seem to think that i should pay some sort of snivelling obeisance to them b/c they're driving a car.
honestly, i used to work for a driving school....dude needs to re-read the part of the driver's handbook that says to scan the entire intersection.

Ok.. Can you breath a bit? I do understand you might be angry and frustrated. I have been in several car accidents, but I have never lost my temper on anyone. Everyone makes mistake and no one is perfect.
I'm not trying to defend that dude, but I don't think I would appreciate anyone yelling at me for something. I have had people get so angry with me because I didn't hear them talking to me and I had my back to them! Of course, they aren't aware that I m deaf, but they yelled at me. They only make themselves look foolish after they finally tap on my shoulder!
Would it be ok for strangers to get pissed off at you because you did something wrong? Maybe it doesn't have to be a car accident, but it could be anything.
Personally, I don't appreciate if anyone lost their temper with me. I don't get angry easily or get mad either. I'm very content and if I realize I did something wrong. I would apology. If this guy knows he makes a bad mistake, he will apology to you before you striked at him. I live in a town where we have a lot of snowbirds in the winter and people who drive back and forth from Mexico and U.S. We get a lol of car accidents because of that.
I'm glad that you are ok and safe! No serious injury right? I hope not!

I didn't HIT him....wish he'd gotten out of the car b/c I would've liked to, but honestly, it's just pure adrenaline reaction when you're a pedestrian and you're struck by a car. I don't feel bad about it - maybe I should, but I don't. It probably also comes b/c people up here are constantly ignoring my right of way as a pedestrian, so I've learnt to take major precautions, and he still hit me, but b/c so many people up here in the suburbs drive like they think they're little gods who can do whatever they want b/c they're in a car....no patience for it at all. He gunned his car right into me. I was lucky I didn't get pinned under it.

oh, and thanks guys. i made it about 100M past the intersection and then had trouble running b/c it was like all the adrenaline drained out at once, i thought i was going to puke. but i am okay.
i'm just so upset and mad at the same time. i need the runner equivalent of a baton like people carry to ward off other dogs....

I'm glad that you are ok! I didn't realize that you were the pedestrian! I would be angry too. I had a similar experience happened to me a few weeks ago too. A guy drove too fast in the neighborhood and I was walking to my car. There is a huge blind spot where I or the driver can't see very well because of those gaint oleanders around it. He caught me by surprise and almost hit me. I was very close to jump into oleander.

It is so scary....and I know people do make mistakes. I honestly would've been more tolerant of it if I'd been in a car. It's totally the 'life flashing before your eyes' thing. But thanks
