We have a major ice storm headed to Oklahoma and Arkansas, and even as far east as Kentucky I believe.
starting tomorrow through wednesday they are expecting between 1 and three inches of ice which would be devastating.
They are telling us to be prepared for major outages and problems. So we went grocery shopping and got propane and water etc. right now I am trying to get laundry and cleaning for the week done just in case I don't have power again
Last time we had a major ice storm we had no power for three weeks in the middle of winter and the entire city was shut down for almost 2 full weeks. So I am keeping my fingers crossed
So to anyone in the path of this storm stay safe and warm!!!!
We were caught totally by surprise last time and it was awful, no food, no clean clothes, and all the stores and other places were without power too so it was downright miserable.
I hate being cold more than just about anything, So I really hope this one isn't too bad.
But if they are already issuing warnings and telling people to stock up on the basics I have a feeling they think it will be.
take care, i know what it is like.
i was with out power for 17 days in a canadian winter.( ice storm 98 )
living rural that means the well pump did not work so we trucked in water.put a wood stove in my basement and got a generator for power, but just to hook up a few heaters, we were at 0 faherenheitoutside and kept it at 40 inside. generator froze up several times, there was a shortage, so home depot trucked them in from the southern u.s.not made for our harsh winters.
our main concern was the wellness of our dogs and horses.
Yes we were worried about our dogs last time too. We didn't have any other source of heating so our house was the temp inside as it was outside.
I put crates next to eachother in the living room with two rugs under them and beds inside and then threw several blankets over the top of both.
We weren't staying at home, and Yote was a brand new pup so he was with me at my parents house while the two hound dogs stayed at home.
When I would come by to check on them they would be curled up together by choice inside a single crate for warmth, and comfort.
We were only able to find one generator last time and it required my dad to stand in line for hours at some random office place for the truck to show up.
We meant to buy one for our house last year and never got around to it, I wish we would have.
This year I am worried about my fish, I have backup air bubblers for the tanks, but only the goldfish tank would survive for long without heat in the cold.
OMG! I'm born and raised in Southern California and can't even comprehend being in the freezing cold for 3 weeks without power. I'm freezing right now because it's windy (55 degrees and windy). Best of luck to you!!!!!!! I hope it's not as bad as they say.
