Hindsight is always so freakin' clear... Here I am getting all excited about visiting Schutzhund Village near Charlottesville tomorrow and have been devouring my new DVD's on focus, drive, working dogs, etc... only to have the thought pop into my head a while ago "hmmm... Falcon has been neutered..." Needless to say, after doing some searches on this site I'm getting the impression that this is most likely going to have a significant effect on his working desire/ability. I can't blame anyone; the vet gave me advice based on information I provided prior to finding Leerburg and learning about Schutzhund, and we had an intact male dog years ago who began marking all the furniture in the house at 4 years of age, so we had "preconceived ideas" already in our head.
Should I even pursue Schutzhund or go back to considering agility? Either way, I love the dog - he wasn't purchased with Schutzhund in mind. Its just a bummer in so many different ways...
The advice on altering him has more to do with SERIOUS competition than furthering the bond between you and your dog.
Besides, you always screw up your first dog in some way (not literally, but there is a learning curve&hellip This way you can see if you want to make a serious hobby out of it, and your next dog will benefit.

very well said.
In my case it was how to choose a good breeder (heck i didnt even know there were different lines)that i wish i knew when i got my puppy (I somehow got lucky I think)...there are definitely some things I'll do different on the next dog...
I'll enjoy these two and will have fun in the meantime
See... just one more reason why this is such a wonderful site... Thanks guys. I guess if Falcon can deal with losing his ummm, well, you know - I certainly can!! I'll go and have a great time learning how I can continue to bond with my wonderful pup.
Thanks. Alyssa - a special thanks. (quit making excuses... LOL!)
Not to contradict another poster but I say go out with GREAT expectations. It will make you a better trainer.
Once you get hooked on it you'll be getting another dog anyway.
I'm heading out with an open mind and looking forward to seeing some great dogs working today...
In regard to being neutered... last night Falcon tried humping an upholstered chair a few times - my husband said (jokingly) "maybe its like someone who loses a leg but still believes it is there!!" LOL! (And no, I did not let the dog keep humping the chair - although glad it wasn't a leg, it still won't be allowed!)
