I have a Dutchie pup that is 7 weeks old. He is underweight, and was very dehydrated.
After spending the day at the vet's on fluids in TN (I live in WV) on the way home he was doing better. He was chasing us in parking lots when we took potty breaks, wagging his tail, and taking water, dextrose (sp?), and Hills A/D through a syringe better.
Before, he wasn't doing any of these things.
At the vet in TN he tested negative for parvo, and the fecal exams. The vet thought he had secondary to dehydration, or secondary to parasites (there were a couple of worms that came out of him).
From 6:00 yesteday evening up until now he has been getting 1 cc of dextrose every 2 hours, and 3 1/2 ccs of water. At 10:00 this morning I gave him 1 cc of Hill's A/D,with no problems. At around 12:00 Scott gave him too much Hill's A/D and he threw that up. Scott gave him too much on accident, he thought I said 1 syringe instead of 1 cc.
He hasn't gotten significantly worse. He has been getting better little by little.
As soon as he will eat, I plan on giving him ground beef mushed w/ goat's milk. Right now he won't even look or sniff at food or water. Even though he isn't as badly as dehydrated, I've been thinking about giving him another pack of Sub Q fluids.
Any thoughts, help, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Poor little guy! Is this a rescue?
I'm sure someone will come along who knows more but....
Will he take baited water? either homemade or store bought organic sodium free broth mixed with water or pedialyte?
When my dog was very ill and wouldn't eat or drink I got her to lick yogurt and honey ice cubes and broth ice cubes just to try to get something in her and her appetite stimulated. She was still on IV fluids at the time but we wanted to try to get her eating and drinking again.
What is baited water? I've tried offer him chick broth, and meant to make chicken broth ice cups but forgot. Thanks for reminding to do that!
He just threw up again, so I'm probably going to have to go get IV fluids today. I would just assume do them myself than go to the emergency vet around here (you pay lots of money, for crappy service), but I'm not sure where to go get them at.
I forgot about the pedialyte also, I was going to try that today too. We didn't get home until 2 AM then did puppy stuff till almost 3, and I've been getting up every two hours so I'm a little frazzled.
I'm making a list of everything I need to get at the grocery store.
For the yogurt/honey ice cubs, did you mix yogurt and honey into the same ice cube?

Ideally, if the dog will drink this: boil white skinless chicken, cool to room temp, and blend up the chicken and cooking water to a thickened soupy water.
I would try that with a little of the resulting water and poultry to see if he will take it. If not, I would give the remaining baited water (the water the chicken cooked in) as is.
I'd try to give room temp or a tad warmer because of how much faster it gets the water to the dehydrated tissue at that temp.

P.S. Of course, ground beef works too, but it has an extra step: chill the resulting baited water and remove the hardened fat, then warm it back up to body temp.
Fat isn't that great when a dog is vomiting (or having diarrhea) because it can trigger both in an upset GI system.
Yes I mixed a little bit of honey into plain organic yogurt.
I also made chicken flavored frozen yogurt. in my ice cream machine, but she had chemical burns in her throat that made cold food a better bet than warm.
