Teagan is normally very confident, as you guys probably know.
However, she met a friend of mine for the second time tonight, and was obviously nervous of him. He has a couple of dogs of his own and is calm/confident around mine. Teagan will go up to him, and he will pet her, and then she'll back away barking. She's obviously nervous.
She's NEVER nervous! I've never seen her react like this to anyone, ever, including every man she's ever met, so I don't think it's a man thing.
Thoughts? She behaved around him, it was just very puzzling to me. Could he remind her of someone? I don't know what to think, he's not a sketchy kind of guy at all. Weird!

I know this sounds kinda weird, but how well do you know this person? People can act like they are normal and us humans believe it, maybe Teagan senses there is something just not right. I don't know. My dogs have always been very good judges of character. Of course, this is just my opinion, so I could be wrong on Teagan's response to your friend.

If my dog reacted very strongly to, and totally out of character with, a specific person...twice...I might be wondering a bit more about that person. I agree with Sharon that dogs do have a sense about things and I've read a few posts like this where the advice given was "Trust your dog".

I thought of that, of her picking up on something I'm not.
And it is weird - Teagan always meets new people completely relaxed. I went over pretty well every man she's ever met and all the women I could think of and I've never seen her do this.
One thing I thought of - I've noticed recently her showing increased signs of territoriality around people and our yard when she is in the house (looking out the window). Not sure if that would be it or not.
He's actually the husband of a very close friend of mine. Teagan was completely normal w/my friend, and her husband dropped by 15 minutes after my friend got there. He did come into the vestibule, and then I went and got him and greeted him like normal, so I don't think that's it, or that that would explain why she seemed nervous. I've seen her meet people she obviously dislikes, and she was never nervous.
I've known him for....just over 2 years now. I've never seen sign of him being anything but a good guy. I know he's gone through some rough patches (he's a recovering alcoholic, but he's been sober for over 15 years now), but I can't think of anything that makes sense to me.

I usually found out the person sucked about 5 years after my dogs figured it out.

Fair enough....I usually put that down to me being overly trusting and then figure out years later that I'm a fool.
We were all suspicious of (edit: him, not them) when they met, b/c they were basically living together after....I don't know, 5 or 6 dates? And engaged after....6 weeks? It was very very fast. But, 2 years later. She's pregnant right now, not that that matters to Teagan.
It just weirded me out too, b/c I guess I always expected if she was suspicious of someone, she'd react differently. She'd walk up to him, he'd pet her, and then she'd back away a couple of feet and start barking. Her ears were back. I have seen her in a wide variety of situations, including where my FR trainer was working with us on her dog aggression and I brought her into his kennel filled with some damn intimidating dogs freaking out (trained protection) while stuff got thrown (not hitting her or anything) to break her attention, and she stayed calm (I would say she was a little weirded out, but she was calm, and not nervous). So for her to react like that to a guy sitting on the couch - it's not even just that she reacts to him, but that is HOW she reacts that I find really weird. Though, now I know what a nervous Teagan looks like....

This is going to sound weird....
But he's not taking female hormones is he?
My bitch once reacted the same way to a male associate who was becoming a woman. Once he was all sorted she was fine.

Trust your dog.
Danke always lets me know when someone is carrying a weapon in my home.
We're pretty sure she reacts weird to marijuana, too.
