I just picked Yote up and brought him home from being neutered. I cant believe how fast they were this time, I dropped him off at 8:30 and he was ready to go home at 1:30.
He is really really out of it though. I had to pick him up to get him in and out of the car and he fell over when he tried to lift a leg.
I am glad it is done and I am hoping it will take a little of the fire out of him and make it easier to work with him and Loki not wanting to kill each other. I know it won't solve it but maybe it will make the situation more manageable.

Wow... my vet won't let them leave until they can walk unassisted.
He might be a little nauseous, too. Otherwise he will be back to his old self by the time the anaesthetic wears off! Funny how dogs never notice they just had major surgery.
As for the behaviour... I tend to agree with Ed that to get rid of "male machoness", neutering has to be done while the dog is still a puppy. However, there is no telling... it *might help* - but anyway, training and management definitely will.

He is/was walking ok, it was just trying to lift a leg to pee and getting in and out of the car.
He had a small bit of water and kept it down so I will try a little more after while.
He is 13 months, so while he isn't little he is also not mature at all, he is still very much a teenage dog.
I am just looking at neutering as one weapon in my arsenal, I know to won't solve the problem, but if it helps take some of the overall "fire" out of him it will be a good thing.

Yes, that unsteadiness can last the whole rest of today.
Don't forget not to let him on a couch, bed, etc., because it would be so easy both to fall off and even to walk off by mistake.

He is not allowed on the furniture, but he does sleep on a wide window ledge behind the couch. Thank you for the reminder to keep him off of there.
It is his favorite spot in the house he can snooze and soak up the sun while also watching the world go by. The curtains are always out of sorts though because of it, which drives me nuts!

His stomach was growling and I felt bad for him so I went ahead and fed him some dinner and he kept it down.
But then he squatted and piddled all over the floor..he hasn't squatted since he was 4 months old, poor guy.

You are right, he is doing well overall.
I could have done without squatting and peeing 5 feet from me though it was a lot of tinkle too!!
And of course it was in the kitchen where I let him be with me because I felt sorry for him. (They are not allowed in the kitchen normally)
He is still really out of it more so than Loki was after his neuter by a long shot. But just like people, different dogs are going to react differently to the medications, and overall he seems to have a pretty sensitive system.

When Hambone was neutured at 1 yo, I brought him home slightly groggy. He peed copiously for hours and howled. It took him almost 24 hours before he truly came out of the anethesia.
Of course, no other dog of mine had ever behaved that way, so I called the vet up and demanded what the (expletive removed) did they do to my pup! Within 36 hours, he was better, and holding his urine again. I did take him out a little more than usual just to make sure and did a modified house training with him...he had just learned to be housebroken at the time so we had to go one step back.
So, yeah, the peeing and the "lot of tinkle" I can relate to and sympathize with you. Hope to hear today that he is back to his spunky Yote self...minus the testosterone of course!
You have really done wonders with this pooch! (Tell Nico hi!)
Look! I DO fit in the bag. |
