I am doing the la cloche silhouette trail in killarney (http://www.ontariotrails.on.ca/trails-a-z/la-cloche-silhouette-trail/) over easter weekend with a friend, taking 4 days to do the whole trail. Which is a 'fast' pace to do the trail, but I've soloed it before and it is very doable in that time frame.

The doggers are of course coming along. Luc and maybe Teagan will be carrying packs.

I am looking for a harness for Neb. He's grown! He's now 30lbs, but I will persist in calling him the midget, just because

Anyways, of the 2 or 3 harness he's had, he's chewed through all of them.

So, I am looking for a chew-proof harness for him - I will take it off at night, but would like it to stay on for the whole day. I should note the chewing has occurred when he hasn't been fully supervised, so that's an obvious preventative measure, but I would like something that is a bit more durable.

My thoughts are either a Ruffwear harness:

Or a leather more 'cutesy' harness (as the nicer leather or toughter harnesses I have been able to get for Luc and Teagan just don't come in little Neb's size):

The other thing is because of the terrain of the trail (3.5 billion year old rock; 1.8 billion years ago the mountains were as tall as the Rockies; time and glaciers have shortened them), there will be places where he may have to be lowered (or carried). These would be very short drops (6-8ft) and he wouldn't be dangling for long, but I'm leaning towards the Ruffwear harness as being better for that with more overall support.

Thoughts or other harness suggestions?

I have the ruffwear pack. The pack comes off and you can use just the harness. This will give you more bang for your buck. Especially if you plan to have Neb carry a pack when he matures more.

Luc and Teagan each have a Ruffwear pack - Luc has the Palisades pack, and Teagan has the Approach pack (smaller pack, but with her hips, I figure that's okay) - the Approach pack actually doesn't come off/separate from the harness .

I was, I admit, being cheap and wondering if I could get him a harness that wouldn't be so costly. But that is a good point about getting the pack with the harness, and I will expect him to carry a pack when he gets a bit older on some trips later this year. I think I will go that route

Speaking of Ruffwear packs, when I first adopted Luc I got him a large Ruffwear Palisades pack....it's waaaay too big for him now, and too big for Teagan as well.

So, anyone who wants a large size Palisades pack (older model, but I'm pretty sure I still have at least one of the water bladders) - post/pm me! It's just sitting in the closet!

Well, I picked up the Midget's new pack today, plus a new collar and leash that will match the pack (and that are a bit more 'big dog'ish. I had a heart attack at the price, even though it was what I thought (why isn't size small cheaper! darnit!) but they did give me 30% off

Neb asked me to ask you why you are compensating for his size w/new "big dog" stuff. He is quite secure with his smaller stature and wishes you would just accept him as he is. Oh, and Midget is not a nice word. He says it's not that he is small as much as it is that Luc and Teagan are big. He was embarrassed to say this to you, so he PM'd Widget, who he knew would understand.

Well, his previous collar was at the final hole and I didn't think very secure, and it was puppy-size thin, and he had a 1/4" thick leash too. So now he's got stuff befitting his 30lb size, a REAL leash. LOL.

Oh, and Luc wants Widget to know he's also been scarred by me, back when I got him a 'manly' collar
