i have a shi tzu yorkie mix. he is 2 years now and has a problem jumping up onto people when they come in to visit me and bite them. i think he means no harm. He has a shi tzu body size and type with a yorkie hair color and the yorkie personality. He is smart as a whip and easy to train, but i dont know how to do it. He is one that learns by showing, praise and treats, best all three. How do I show him how to do it? I dont get many visitors at all and the ones that do dont mind if he does that. They say "let him be my buddy. I dont mind" . thanks

Whoa.
Did he jump on the keyboard too?
Do you have a crate for him?

I'm locking this topic until the site owner checks this due to the bizzare thread title.

What kind of biting? Mouthing or actually biting?
What training have you done?

i have a yorkie shi tsu mix. he looks like a shi tsu with the personality of a yorki. the problem i have with him is that he will raise cane when anyone walks by the appartment door. That doesnt really bother me. what does is that when someone comes up to the door to visit me, he tends to jump up when they come in and nip at their cloths. I want to stop that and dont know what to do about it.
Don't complain....TRAIN!!! |

Hi, well what he does is this, he jumps up and gets ahold of the visitors cloths, like the shirt. He is too small to reach the hands. He gets really exited when he hears somone comes to the door. I just yesterday bought a prong collar to get my point across what I dont want from him. I dont think that this aggressive biting, just over exitement. He does bite, not mouth. Thanks

Can you answer this question for us.
A prong collar on an excited dog is not always a good idea. It amps them up.

If this is excited biting you might try redirecting him onto toys instead of the prong.
Though, my first thought is to at least temporarily stop access to the door for him. Have him go to his crate, and when he is quiet and calm, he can come out to greet the visitors. You may also want to work on other commands he can do when visitors come over (sit/down/place) that gives him something to do when people come over.
He also sounds like a social little guy. One thing I've used effectively on my dogs for jumping on people is not corrections but turning your back to them and completely ignoring them while they display unwanted behaviour. B/c they want attention, they easily learnt to calm down (for the most part....Teagan gets encouraged sometimes by my brother and boyfriend, but we are working on that/them) and to give calm behaviours that they know they will be rewarded for.
Teagan!

hi, I have taught my dog to sit, stay, shake (right paw), left paw(which means shake left paw), down(which is not always done without a treat), come, go back, out, off. Trying to teach him dance, jump, roll over, which he has not done yet. I try to not teach all commands at once. Oh, yes he also knows that if he gets wraped around a tree that he needs to unwrap himself. I dont always have to tell him to do it and he will do it on his own. thanks

If you crate the dog when he's being obnoxious, problem solved.
