Ok so I only did rabie for phoenixes one year protcal and my vet hated it.
But Phoenix had a bed reaction and I don't think she will be getting one in 3 years when she is due.
But Bruiser is coming doue next month or mabye may but I know its coming.
I also know that the three year is the same as the one year.
Now down to the question.
Should i give bruiser his vac.
It is required by law here.
But him being nuetered and being a smaller dog I am scared of a searious reaction.
It would only be rabies. I will do titlers in four years for there normal vacs.
I know most dont.
Here s my situation.
I live in a apartment and all vacs are required. But I can make paperword look good cause normal vac don't need a vet signature.
But a rabie requires it and I am not to keen on forgining a signature.
Point being what can I do if I deside to get the vac. Any meds I can give befor hand.
Bruiser proably wont ever get another core as he had a allergic reaction to the one set he got as a puppy. So it would only be rabies.
And I can not afford a titler and my vet won't do it for a rabies. Shoot she did not even want to do it for phoenix core vacs
What I found last time speaking with the vet about no rabies is that the vet can write a letter explaining why the dog shouldn't get one etc. but it is up to the county. She *has* written no-vac notices in the past, but these are for dogs who are very sick/getting over sickness ie a dog who is having fewer strokes because of a remedy. The last thing she wants to do is give him a vac. She also has horror stories of dogs who have not gotten the shot and have been quarantined for upward of 3 months at the owners expense.
Personally she has said she will give Kota half of the normal shot for rabies on the hush hush. Maybe your vet can do something like this.
I live in CO, and spend a good deal of time with my dog in the woods. I want him to have *some* of the vaccine, but not much. I would think in TX it might be the same and maybe your vet could give him 1/2 or 1/4 the vaccine.
Can you possibly just do a rabies titer and get the note from the vet? The reaction could have been from the type of rabies vaccine, you can use a different manufacturer. What kind of reaction did the dog have?
EDIT: Duh, just reread you can't do titers. Maybe find a different vet that can, or go to a local spca vet clinic for cheaper prices. I don't understand why the vet won't.
If it was my dog: I would get the 3 year rabies shot (only). Get some thuja which is supposed to help with vaccine reactions. I don't blame you for being afraid for the dog, but at the same time, you don't want him to get taken away from you or quarantined or even put down (if he ever bit someone).
I guess think of the worst possible outcome. From the point of doing it and not doing it. What is the worst that could happen (he could die from the vaccine, for example, but also if they seize him and put him down). Then decide which is more likely to happen and go with that.
I guess you have to do what you feel most comfortable with.
Do a search on "thuja" and see if you can get some.
Well the city is not really a problem I have not even registered them yet this year. So like they really keep up with that. LOL Considering its already march.
Its the apartments. The only reason I was not worried about it a few months ago. was that I lived in a rental house and she did not care about my dogs.
I think I may go ahead and get it done. and take every precaution I can with a possible reaction and hope in 3 years I am in my own home and do what I want.
cause with a broken lease on my credit it could be hard to find another place and with a rabbit its like owning a pit in the sense no body wants one in there house.
I will research the drugs for reactions and I willKeep everyone updated when he gets it for a few weeks afterwords.
I wish I could tell my apartment manger my dogs are dead but she lives next door to me.
Although she does compliment how well behaved they are.
In my eyes bruiser is a holy terrior. But everyone else says they are so buetiful and well behaved
