I'm assuming Ed and Cindy's dogs don't get a lot of exposure to random dogs? I'm getting a new pup soon and live in a pretty high traffic area, near a vet and a couple dog parks. I go to low traffic parks, but am still concerned about what's around. Do I have to worry about my pup getting parvo or any other diseases from contact with dog pee/poo? My current dog only had his first booster, which was before I read anything on this site. I don't want to vaccinate my new pup but will worry somewhat about what could happen with all the dog poop around this city.

We all have a choices to make. Vaccinate or not vaccinate is one of them. Either way we live with the choices that we make based upon the best information we have available. Read the literature and decide what makes YOU comfortable. All of us have separate living situations, have mostly the same pro con information available, and have the ability to make this choice. Nothing in this world is not without risk.
I'm not going to tell you to vaccinate your puppy or to not vaccinate your puppy. I'm also not going to tell you what decision I made for my dogs. This is because my decision should not be yours based upon what I chose to do. Read the many links available here and about the web, talk to your vet who will be undoubtably pro vaccine, and make a choice.

Here's a bit more info --- the Dr. Jean Dodds minimal vaccine protocol:
Please note particularly the info beside the many "not recommended" among the non-core vaccinations, and note too that several of those "not recommended" will be pushed by many vet practices.
One of the biggest points made there is how important it is not to make these decisions based on marketing strategies. Unfortunately, the protocols in use by many (or most) vet practices today come straight from the manufacturers of the vaccines -- the one entity that's least arm's-length and most financially vested.
I recently spent three hours (I know, obsessive;-) listening to Dr. Patricia Jordan speak on a radio show called Animal Talk Naturally about vaccines and vaccine protocols. It's a three part radio-blog series (each part one hour). I found it pretty interesting, and totally in line with the books I've purchased here at Leerburg. Dr. Jordan wrote a book called "Mark of the Beast: hidden in plain sight" about the dangers of vaccines, that I haven't read yet.
