If you serve 5 years in the US Military and get out, what are you entitled to? Not much. GI Bill, perhaps. If you incurred a disability, you might be eligible for some VA benefits, right? That's about it.
If you serve 10 years in the Military, and get out, then what do you get? Same thing, right?
What if you serve 19 years and 364 days? Then what? Still the same thing, right?
Now, what if you serve FIVE years in the US Congress?
Then what do you get?
Your FULL pension!
To get that same benefit in the Military, you would have to serve 30 years.
But our Congressmen and women get it after only FIVE!
Congress is typically in session less than 150 days per year.
We have soldiers that have served 5 non-consecutive years in a combat zone, who cannot retire from the military on a full pension for another 20+ years.
Hmmm, maybe we could turn things around for a while and have the military write laws and send congress to Afghanistan.Barney Frank trying to pronounce Jalalabad would almost be worth messin with the constitution.
These are the kind of warped things that happen when 'We the People' abdicate our responsiblity and authority to a few power brokers.
When 'We the People' decide it's more important to vote for the latest American Idol then holding the b#$%#@#d's in Congress feet to the fire and voting them out of office if the need be.....
Well 'We the People' shouldn't be too surprised at what we get in return.
In our union it's every citizens responsility to know and understand what is going on from the local town hall all the way up to the grand halls of Washington.
Any nonvote from any citizen is the same a yea vote for the status quo. Any nonphone call or nonmessage to ones Congressmen/Congresswomen is the same as a yea vote for the status quo.
National service should be a requirement for every single abled bodied American citizen.
And in case you haven't heard, our new president is now talking about billing our veteran's private medical insurance for SERVICE RELATED INJURIES/ILLNESSES...
Gotta figure out a way to pay for all the freakin' socialized medicine we'll be doling out to folks who don't work and certainly have never served their country a single day in their life...
I agree Randy, everyone wanted to vote for the most photogenic, or most popular. I tell people that dont vote they have no right to complain about the way things are since they didnt do anything to change it.
