Since joining this board I've learned as much (if not more)about what I'd do differently or have done wrong with my dog, from purchasing a german show line dog vs working (yeah, yeah, I know... I was pretty defensive about that one but we all can learn...), to neutering too young, etc...
NOW I'm giving thought to feeding raw so that in four years I won't be saying "one more thing I could have done differently". This is going to be a hard sell on my hubby, however, not impossible. Which leads me to the question, does anyone raise their own chicken and/or rabbits for this purpose?
We are already in the process of building a chicken palace (too big too be called a coop) although my HOPE had been to only raise egg layers, but with the ability to add "meaties" if necessary. We had also discussed rabbits just in case the economy really tanks and we need some more protein (LOL!)...
Does anyone raise their own meat? I KNOW I won't be able to name a single chick or bunny if I really decide to do this...
Although we live kinda out in the boonies, "swine" are the one critter we can't raise. Did you slaughter the little (probably big) piggies yourself or have someone else do it?
I've got my rabbits going now ( small start, one buck and three does, but they don't take up much space and are easy to care for ).
Chickens are next and I'm building a chicken tractor right now, you might consider building one also as an alternative to the coop, it's great for your lawn or garden.
My dogs are going to start eating a lot more fish as I gain skill in fishing.....
