One of my dogs seems to be allergic to salmon oil. He has been raised on raw food. Was very itchy... tried leaving out various proteins and finally decided to try leaving out the fish oil for a couple of weeks....after a few days, no itching, left it off for a month tried adding it back itching started back. Now he is not getting any salmon oil and is doing better than ever. I have been adding a can of mackeral 2-3 times a week. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.
Nope...I really don't know what to think about all of this...I've never had this happen...he was itching, had gooey hair, didn't smell very good(not yeasty smelling) and red skin on his belly as though he was hot. When I try starting him back on the Salmon Oil(the expensive pharma grade) it starts back.
I feel very strongly that salmon oil is an important part of a raw diet. Just wondering if his dietary needs will be met just feeding the Mackeral?
I know, it's weird to me....I've been working on this for about 6 weeks now with the giving it not giving it experiment. It really seems to be related to the salmon oil.
Think I will try giving a minimum amount every other day and see what happens.

He has had zero oil for 6 weeks?
Then one dose should answer you.
If it is the oil, please let me know, because I would suspect a sensitivity to the essential lemon- or orange-peel oil in some very high-quality fish oils before I would suspect a true allergy in a dog who is OK with mackerel.
What brand is it, and which source (salmon or anchovy/sardines or herring, or what)?
Got no fish oil for about a month, no itching, tried adding it back about 2-3 weeks ago, started itching again after a few days, took him off of it again, no itching.
The oil I have now is Wholistic Pet Organics, Wild caught, deep sea salmon oil
