I'm not sure if I have that right or not. I think it was Bench or somthing that sounds like it. Some sort of dog sport or show or something. Anyone know what I might be talking about?
A bench show is a kind of a conformation (AKC I believe) show. Is that what you mean?
Yup.

BENCHED SHOWS
The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is one of the few benched dog shows in this country. Originally, most shows were "benched" in some fashion, where the entered dogs were required to be in assigned areas (on benches) at all times when not being judged in the ring. This allowed for interaction of dogs and their owners with spectators and other owners and breeders as an educational process.
Ohhhhh, so it's basically just UKC Confirmation where the dogs wait on the sideline? I was just speaking with someone who said they would like to get into that.

By "get into that", I'm assuming they just mean conformation showing in general - not all conformation shows are benched, but conformation showing is the most ubiquitous form of "showing" and is organized by kennel clubs and breed clubs.
As Natalya stated, a benched show literally has benches with rows of cages, and the dogs entered in the show must either be on its bench, being "pottied", groomed or in the show ring. Basically your dog is on constant exhibition for the public to stroll by and view.
At a UKC show I was at last year, which was not benched, you only had to show up to be in the show ring. Otherwise you had your crates set up at your car or in another private area on the grounds, or even back at your hotel or whatever, and the public is able to watch the judging and events BUT NOT to stroll around and look at the dogs, since there is no dedicated place for the dogs to be.
