I am a dog owner who is learning the ropes. i live in a small town in maine with my boyfriend. There is so much i would like to say, but i will do my best to keep it short.
I started a veterinary technology program, which has been postponed for a short while, but i am in love with it. i also plan on minoring in criminal justice, or just getting a separate degree. I always loved animals and have come to the conclusion i want to help them. there are so many options with this degree and i am so excited to start a career.

i love our two dogs, a boxer and a chocolate lab. they aren't papered or imported or anything, just "rescues" from bad situations. they are like my children. even though they have great personalities, i have the feeling they are not the perfect breeds for me. now i just need to find the breed that is. the hardest part is i love 90% of dog breeds out there! i am considering volunteering at a shelter to experience other breeds and mixed breeds.
i couldn't figure out how to post a picture.
-hannah
P.S. i love this forum and spend way too much time on it!

Welcome to the board! I do know you need a free picture site like http://www.photobucket.com
You sign up and upload your pictures from your computer. The website should tell you what to do to have your pictures appear in your post. I can do it, I just can't explain it.

Welcome to the board! I do know you need a free picture site like http://www.photobucket.com
You sign up and upload your pictures from your computer. The website should tell you what to do to have your pictures appear in your post. I can do it, I just can't explain it.
Directions for Photobucket :

When you first get an account, you will have your main page.

On the left, find the box that says, “Albums” and at the bottom of the box, make an album for either ‘Animals” or for the individual dogs (like I did). This will help later if you have five million pictures and want to find one; otherwise, skip this step.

Open that album and at the top, it will give you the choice to either upload one picture at a time, or if your internet speed is fast enough, a bulk upload (my favorite!!). Find the pictures on your computer and upload them. This could take a while depending on how obsessive you are with taking pictures.

Now, choose the picture you like, and click the edit (main album page) or the re-size (from the individual pictures page). Re-size it to 'large' (640 X 480) and save a copy; that will be one of the choices. I title the copy “Forum Copy” so I don’t ever move it. If the picture is ever moved, the link will be broken and your picture will disapear on the page you have it published.

From the main album page, if you hold your mouse over the picture, options will pop down. Copy the IMG Code (the typical right click and copy) and then paste that link into the text of the post you are typing!

That’s it!

And welcome!!!!!

I find it MUCH easier to use something like http://www.tinypic.com or http://www.imageshack.us because you don't have to sign up or get an account or anything. You simply upload your photo and then copy and paste the link it gives you for your picture.

My picture has been up forever because my kids put it up and I don't know how to change it, so I can't help you there .

But I am curious to why you don't feel your dogs' breeds are a good match. Is it size, temperment, energy level etc? If you can figure out what isn't working that might help figure out what would fit better.
 http://animal.discovery.com/breedselector/dogselector.do
This link takes you to a breed selector which matches you with a compatible breed based on questions you answer. It might give you a starting point of breeds to research; but by no means except the results as is; do lots of investigating. Goodluck

Hmmmm... that breed selector gave me 121 breeds to choose from. I stated I wanted a calm, "couch potato" dog that needed only "a stroll in the park" and a couple balls thrown every now and again and it came back with some breeds I would definitely NOT consider low energy (such as the Rhodesian Ridgeback, Beauceron and Husky - among others).
I also said medium or large (20-88 lbs) and I got Great Dane! LOL.

Angela, based on experience, a Great Dane, although huge, are very sedate dogs. My daughter had one and she was easily trained, placid personality, even timid, and loved just lying around.
As for the boxer, I have had three and, while they need exercise as all dogs do, typically they are ready to play anytime you are but are also satisfied to hang out in the house.

Both these breed are indoor dogs. The Great Dane always smelled bad. I don't know if that is a breed thing or just dog (at the time, she was kibble fed). My boxers have never had a really foul odor (except for lots of gas).

Good luck.

LOL!! One of them has got to be right!!! Isn't it broken down by percentages? Were the breeds that rated above 90% dogs you would consider? I like it because it has a decent synopsis of each of the breeds and could be a starting point to learn more about them.
