Hi All,
I was just reading up on the new Herbsmith "Clear Allergies" that are here at Leerburg.
They sure look good, and I did go research the company some, and was wondering if anyone here has yet to try them?
All the symptoms that they mention sound like the problems I am having with Kaia as well as Kodi. They are different than the ones that I have been using from my vet, different ingredients that is.
Does anyone see a problem with trying them while still on the ones the vet gave? I am likely to run out, so it may not be an issue.
Just wanted to see if anyone has tried these.

That is really cool Sue! The ones I have from my vet are working some, but these Herbsmith ones sure look like a good product to try. The pollen counts are so high this week here in Dallas and I am just trying everything I can that I know won't weaken her already low immune system.

typically if a dog has allergies their immune system is overactive, not low.
the Herbsmith Clear Allergies is selling off the shelf, I'm using several of the other formulas on my own dogs. Depending on your dog, immune suppressed dogs typically have chronic disease or cancer or something like that.We have a formula called Boost Immunity for those animals. Allergies are an overactive immune system, the body overreacts to things that don't bother dogs with a balanced immune system. those dogs will typically get relief from the Clear Allergies.
The older Corgi who was recently diagnosed with CVI (Wobbler's syndrome) is on the Arthritis and Acute Trauma and doing very well.
I'm using the Athlete formula for Rush.
Realize that with any of these formulas it may take up to 20 days to see results. These aren't allopathic "drugs" that cure symptoms right away, they are used to help the body become balanced and that doesn't happen over night.
I'm very happy with the reports I'm getting from our customers and from my own trials with our dogs.

Cindy,
Thanks for commenting on this. So, dogs that present with symptoms that all point in the direction of allergies are dealing with an imbalance rather than a lowered immune system. With the pollen counts in the 10's and 11's her immune system is "over reacting"
Thank you for helping me understand this more.
I have seen some improvement in the ones that my vet has given me.
Heel brand homeopathy for Allergies and then some Chinese herbs as well.
But I checked the label and there are no similar ingredients, so I would like to give 'Clear Allergies a try.
At this point, I have nothing to lose and everything to gain from seeing if it can help.
Thank you for helping me understand the difference between low immunity and an over active one.

I have the good fortune of having Dr. Shawn Messonnier as my holistic vet. Actually he is a vet that is into integrative medicine, so he believes in both conventional as well as holistic remedies in his practice. Thankfully, he has us trying some really good homeopathy as well as Chinese herbs.
I really don't want to use steroids and have been using chlorpheneramine in small doses, but I really believe in the concept of what the Chinese herbs do, working on the actual problem and not just the symptoms. For me, even though we have done small trials with the steroids and antihistamines, I would prefer to approach this as naturally as possible.
I couldn't agree more with you, allergies are hell!
Thanks for your post!

Lucky you! I have his book, which Connie recommended, and I was so impressed with his approach to veterinary medicine.

I do feel pretty lucky. I am really glad that he won't vaccinate while Kaia has these skin issues. She is due for her rabies booster. But I really don't want to give it to her. So, until we get her allergies under control, I won't be giving it to her.
I would like to not give any more vaccines if I can help it.
I know that we have a law that states we have to give it, but I am wondering if I can get around it, being that she has these issues. Also, trying to research and learn about heartworm preventative. I have been giving it, but I am also learning more about the actual dangers with this as well. Seeing the many members who choose not to give it as well, and trying to learn what is best.
There are no real easy answers, just calculations of risk and weighing the choices.
I do know this much. What we once thought was good to do has changed tremendously over the years. I'd like to think that we are learning more and know better, how to be healthier for ourselves and for our animals.
There is so much out there to research and so much knowledge is at our fingertips.
I feel it is my obligation to try at least to do the very best I can for my pets, with what I know now.
That's all any of us can do. It just gets more challenging, as so many things in our environment are changing.
