This isn't dog-related, but I'm really sad right now (okay, I'm crying like a baby).
My mom put down her cat Mitu this afternoon.
I knew she was going to; we went over to my mom's last night to say goodbye. It was really nice.
My mom got Mitu when I was in university but I lived with her for a few years. In second year, after my mom adopted her, she had all these allergy problems (did her whole life) and the vet my mom initially took her to got my mom to put her in a e-collar to stop her from licking at her belly (she was creating sores). I didn't have class on Fridays so I used to go home and spend Friday with her while she was stuck in the collar and we bonded. Then I went home to see her even when she didn't have the e-collar (got a good vet and an allergist).
She loved, and was loved by, my first ever pet, Thomas the rabbit. She was so sad when we moved out.
Mitu used to love to chase drips, she'd get in the bathtub and chase drips and we'd cheer and tell her what a good girl she was and sing her songs 'Mitu is the best kittycat' and 'Mitu the Black-Nosed Kittycat' (to the tune of Rudolph) were two favourites. Up until the last day she kept getting into the bathtub for praise and pets every morning.
My mom made the right decision, in terms of balancing quality of life. But it's very sad, and we'll all miss her.
Yes... we will always miss these animals which touch our lives. It sounds like Mitu lived a good life and hopefully is now chasing drips for all eternity.
