Kaiser is ready (I think) to have an additional protein source added to his diet. He is currently munching on chicken backs with the organ meat attached with some skin and very little fat. He also gets probios once a day and Vit E and Fish Oil every other day. He'll, hopefully, be getting to munch on some chicken necks tonight as well (does that count as an additional protein source OR should it be a different species?).
So, what do you think should be the next protein source? I was thinking I would add some ground turkey or ground beef. But maybe some chicken livers or hearts would be better.

If so, I would probably add a tiny bit of chicken liver and see what happens. After that I would add a tiny bit of a red meat (lamb? beef?) keeping it lean at first because of this dog's history.
I think the fish oil can go to every day any time. I know that it's fat, but it's tiny fat.
Chicken necks are pretty bony. Maybe the bit of red meat could be added along with a chicken neck.
This dog is a dog whose additions would be made in smaller-than-usual meals, for me.

Also, after every change, I would wait for the next poop. No better measure, really, of how the addition went.
I have a senior with a sensitive stomach, mainly manifesting in protest (his comes out the other end) if any addition is ever made in anything bigger than tiny at first. For example, his sardines were started with one little sardine perched on his RMBs. His chicken liver was started with a teaspoon.

Can you define tiny? Currently his meals are about 1 - 1.25 pounds of backs. Is tiny in terms of 1 ounce or 2 - 3 ounces or 1 liver?

P.S. It's so much easier to add each item in stages than it is to face a diarrhea episode and a newly-irritated gut with this guy who we already know needs care taken with his digestive system.
I think I'll start with the ground meat as his poops are good but a little on the firm and dry side - so maybe a little more MM is in order. Once that is settled, I'll add the chicken liver or chicken heart.
I have bought 40# chicken backs and 40# chicken necks - packed in 2.5# packages frozen in our freezer. I have one in the fridge with on on deck once he eats half the first pack.
I was actually thinking about freezing packs of one days' worth of meals in the same package so that all I need to do is pull the pack and feed him what's in it.
