Hi everyone!
New to the forum here. So hi to everyone. I have a thirteen week old boxer puppy. I have been feeding her Royal Canine. I read a lot of negatives on an old post from last year.
Now my vet says it's a good food but I am reading it has a lot of grain in it. There is an animal feed store near my house that sells organic meat based dog food. Should I switch? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I agree with dumping Royal Canin.

A relative has had her dog on that and all she has is health problems. Pancreatic, you name it.
I'd dump it, too.
Have you considered raw?

Yes but don't know too much about it. Where does one get started?

Sorry to be late answering this, I just saw it.
Angela is right. Plenty of advice here. Good advice.
I started raw last year and it is the best decision one can make for their dog.
Firt, read the url's that Angela posted. Do your research, read, read, read.
Then, start askin' away. Everyone here is concerned with the health of their dog. Even if you choose to continue kibble. Lots of those here, too.

I peruse the 'all natural diet for dogs' section often and find a LOT of great advice!! I peruse all the different forums, but that's another story
http://leerburg.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/ubb/postlist/Board/12/page/1
As Nora said, everyone here is concerned for the health of their dog, and is willing to help you find the best option for your dog.
Now! is the brand I am considering.

I like the way this site reviews their food. I prefer dehydrated food over kibble. When we go on road trips or backpacking I feed dehydrated food (ziwi peak or honest kitchen) because it is less processed and the dehydration process vs cooking at high temps better retains the nutritional value of the ingredients. I recently started feeding a meal of dehydrated food every other week to keep his system familiar with it.

Thank you everyone!
I am checking all this out info out. I had a scare two nights ago with Gabbie. She was jumping up trying to play bite with my brothers dog. She came down on her left hock joint and brused it bad. It looked like she dislocated her hip at first. Needless to say I was extremely worried (hip dysplasia). I took her to his vet right down the street. Luckily he was open till nine that night. Right away he said it wasn't the hip(Thank God). He then said her leg might be broken. I thought that's better than the hip!! The next morning X-Rays showed no break and he said it was a severe bruse.
So I am even more eager now to get her on the BEST DIET I can!
Thanks again!
