I bought Embark for my 8 week Golden. He was weaned to Enhance kibble. We got him two days ago. He wouldn't eat anything the first day. Yesterday we tried mixing the kibble with the Embark and he barely touched it. I fianlly gave him some cut up bits of the pork chops we had for dinner last night and he scarfed it down. I don't know if I'm worrying too much or not. Should I just put down the Embark for 15 minutes a few times a day, and he'll eventually eat it when he gets hungry enough or what? Also, he's not interested in the Liver Biscotti treat we got him. I'm OVERWHELMED at the amount of info on this website!!! I love it and it's a Godsend; but I don't know where to start!! Also, (dumb computer question) I see photos of members' dogs on their posts, how'd you do that?
Too soon to switch.
Give him more time to adjust to his new environment.
Continue to feed the old food.
I would begin feeding probiotics immediately to assist the pup through this stressful period, as digestive ailments are apparent (and very common when the pups first leave home).
I would also contact the breeder and see when the pup was last wormed, as the wormer may be wreaking havoc on the little guy.
Once the pup has consistantly solid stool on the old food, you can begin phasing out the old, and adding in the new.
If he still shows reluctance to eat, I would give him 15 minutes or so, and then take the food up. Offer the food again two hours later.
He is stressed, homesick and confused by everything that is happening to him.
Keep his meals consistant for a week or two until he can adjust mentally and physically.
thanks! Great advice; he was wormed right before we got him. So, I'll just take your advice and try to change as little else for hm as possible for a couple of weeks.
I was told that the yogurt, ideally, should be whole milk, unflavored, and unsweetened.
I started my guy on yogurt then switched to ProBios to kinda kick-start the system. Then back to yogurt once things settled down for him.
I think they both have their place and yogurt is for the long-term - excellent addition. I actually put it on top of his 1/8 cup meatballs I make (raw of course) - kinda like a sauce!
