We have been working hard on our recall with yote, inside, in the backyard, in the front yard and even at the playground, all while wearing a 20 foot line.
He was coming along great and I KNOW he knows what "to me" means.
A little while ago he slipped out the front door while I was trying to take out a big trash bag.
I spent 30 minutes trying to catch him.
I did not call him after the first "to me", as I didn't want to ruin the command.
He also knew darn well what he was doing.
He would let me get within a couple feet of him and then sprint off to the next yard.
So would this be the time to maybe use an E collar to proof his recalls?
I have used the prong attached to the long line to correct him for not coming, but I feel like I need something that I can correct him from 20 yards away if need be.

You could do that. I use/used an ecollar to do the same thing and it has done wonders with my one dog and currenltly in the process of training with another. Ecollar can solve the getting out the door stuff to, so you can take out the trash. Sneaky pup I'm guessing.
They are great tools. Just make sure to watch the video first. They are like imaginary leashes.

That happened to me today...every time I would get a couple of steps from Jazz, she would dart off. Well, since I never chase after her, I started running in the opposite direction and finally got within my grasp. I have only done a couple of recall sessions with her so this time we were both lucky!

I tried running the other direction, he could have cared less.
I ended up basically tackling him at the end of it.
I am going to try to order the video this weekend and I think I found a collar I can borrow from a friend who uses them with his hunting dogs, he has a couple extras.

My husky mix showed me how he can escape from my unescapable yard last night. Luckily, he must be a Catholic, as he feels guilty every time he sins and all it takes is one word from me (even out of a window) and he pops back in like, oh sorry....
Actually it's a good thing he finds the weak spots for me because I have another dog that I really do not want to risk getting out.
It must be the breed... lol.
I think the e-collar, used properly, would definitely work well. I've never used one but an invisible leash sounds like exacly what he needs. Just make sure he doesn't get collar-wise.

Angela, that's funny, I was just going to say something about the Husky blood....everything I've ever read on the breed says they are escape artists and prone to taking off.
Jenn, I found something similar - with Luc, when I first had him, if he didn't come, I would just turn around and go the other way - suddenly Luc would be right at my side!
....Neb is a lot more independent. He got away from me once (I dropped the leash) and the 'fine, I'm leaving' ploy did not work. I don't know if Huskies as a breed are more independent, but there's a huge difference between him and Luc. Neb likes to hang out with me, but he definitely has a stubborn, independent streak.
Teagan!

It is totally the breed, they are known escape artists and famously independent, and wanderers to boot.
Any time spent looking at husky sites and the first thing you will learn is that they are almost never safe off leash, need Fort Knox as a backyard and constant vigilance.
Loki got loose once when I lost my hold on the leash, and all it took was me saying no! and turning around and taking maybe two steps and he was right next to me doing the apologetic droopy thing.

Definitely Husky. Hambone's recall is solid...unless it interferes with what he wants to do...
E-collar sounds right for Yote. I never used one, but with all the researching I have done, you would excel at using it.
Yote is trusting you, you are solid with him, and you watch the videos to learn.
If you go this route, please keep us updated.
Look! I DO fit in the bag. |

Thanks!
He really does trust me, didn't even bat an eye about being tackled and grabbed, it was just all in good fun for him.
The E collar scares me more than a little, but so did the prong and it has done nothing but good things with our training
