So, Neb is a year old. He is not neutered. I plan to wait until he is 2 years old, if I neuter him at all.
He went through a period of trying to hump Teagan and I made it clear to him (not allowing him to, redirection) that it was not allowed. He stopped.
He has started again, which means he is again always tethered to me. We're working on it, and seeing some improvement (though he did 'hug' my leg and me twice last week - no erection, no humping, but....
This is a dumb question, but is there anything I can do about how strongly he responds to her? He gets an erection every time he sees her. She is spayed! He has an erection like 75% of the time he's tethered to me.
They have crates in the same room. Should I split them up?
I don't think this is a dominance thing, b/c he always seems to be sexually excited by her. He's also VERY into sniffing her privates, and can spend a looong time doing that if I let him.
Jennifer, I don't have any idea how to help you out on this one, but did want to say thanks for the chuckle!! POOR NEB!!! It sounds like middle school hell if you ask me!! LOL!
Yikes. Teagan is spayed, even still, he's excited by her. As far as I know, he's never even been around an intact female.
I was out for dinner with a friend tonight, and she just thought I'd have to neuter him. I really would like to wait though. I like the muscle mass he has, and while I think he's part terrier, I also think it's b/c he's intact. And all the other reasons why I'm leery of neutering him (I did sign a neuter contract when I adopted him that I'd have him done at 6 months, but I knew they wouldn't follow up and I'm obviously never going to bred him and he's always under control outside/we don't hang out with strange dogs. I think I've got preventing accidental pregnancies under control.
Maybe it's just a matter of managing him with Teagan. I don't let the dogs unsupervised together anyways, it'd just be nice if he was less excited by Teagan.
