I need to find an obedience trainer in Cincinatti. The dog is a male BRT that needs some help. The current trainer is using a HALTIE for crying out loud! Preferably he needs some one that knows protection breeds and can help the owner deal with teaching the dog to accept new people. The dog will not be protection trained, he just needs to learn basic obedience and have a pro-active command to accept strangers. He is starting to mature and is getting a little suspicious and has had some health problems that are keeping him from getting out much in the last couple of months. I was thinking about getting a BRT pup in the next year and am curious about the health issues this pup has. Are they Genetic in nature and if so what breeder did it come from? Any other info on reputable breeders and bloodlines would be greatly appreciated.

In this case the dog has had some complications with a neuter. He may have some hip problems also, but that isn't the current issue. As a whole there are some hip issues with the breed, they are very susceptable to pano because of their growth rate, and some seem to have a bit of a delicate stomach. I have had none of these problems with my girl, but she is only 8 months old. We haven't done prelim x-rays yet on her. I won't do that until 1 to 1 1/2 with finale hip and elbows at 2.

The real expert just showed up! Anna owns 2 of the top BRT's in the country, and is IMO one of the 2 top REAL experts on the breed in North America. So I will shut up and learn something too!!

Come on Richard we all know that it is you looking for someone to train your dog. It's all right we're all beginners at one time. I recommend two things for you. Pick up Purely Positive and First steps of bite training from Ed. Check them out and make notes along the way for things that you don't understand and I will help you with them. And remember the only stupid question is the one you don't ask. So let's all welcome Richard to the board and be there for him in this confusing time. LOL.
