First off let me say that I have found so much great info reading the forums and everyone has great advice, with that I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is normal. At times my 6mos. old while walking in the yard sometimes will stumble like she has tripped over something, I was wondering if this is normal for a dog her age just getting used to her big paws or is this some cause for alarm in any way. Maybe I just have a clumsey dog. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
My nine month old GSD is really just now learning to move like he knows what to do with all four feet and legs - and sometimes still seems to forget that he can control the back end. They are very clumsy at six months of age. There isn't enough information in what you posted to say there ISN'T a problem, but there is enough info to say yes, six month old dogs are clumsy and can trip over themselves very easily.
Thanks Barbara, it is comforting knowing that this might be normal. It seems as though she maybe does not quite pick up her front feet up all the way which causes her to trip or stumble. Not like you would think after exercise though just walking around. Thanks for your help.
I don't have GSDs. However, I have never seen any of my dogs do this.
Does she drag her rear paws when she walks (scrape her claws on the ground as she brings her foot forward?) Limp? Is it her rear or front feet she seems to "trip over"? Does she show pain (yelp or struggle) if you gently flex her legs (bend her knees and elbows?)
