This is his first time visiting since he's been back from his second tour in Afghanistan. (He lives/is stationed about 2000 km away).
Students that attend the school in my parents' neighbourhood, decorated the whole neighbourhood with yellow ribbons in preparation for his homecoming. I've linked an article our local paper printed about it. What the article doesn't say is that the ribbons aren't just on public property; many of the private properties put more than one ribbon, on trees, porches, bushes.
My church is on that street and when I attended this morning I couldn't believe my eyes. It was so heartwarming.
My brother was very surprised when he arrived later this afternoon. LOL poor guy, he is so humble and shy, I think he was a bit embarrassed.
Thought I'd share.... I know many people on here are military so it's nice to know you are supported!
This is an article about one of the projects he worked on in Afghanistan. http://dcnonl.com/article/id33283 IMO those kinds of works are one of the most dangerous, since the bad guys will always know where you are going to be working.
That was very nice of those students to decorate yellow ribbons all around the community. I hope your little brother feel very welcome even though he might feel different about coming home from the war. If things has gotten hard for him to feel normal again, he should speak with war veterans to gain some supports. I think they understand each other better than anyone.
