I just wanted to introduce myself as I am new to the forum. I have a 4 yr old male rescue Akita whom I've only had about 6 mos. Someone from the rescue group keyed me in on this forum, and I've been doing A LOT of reading! I've purchased a couple of Ed's videos, I'll get more, but I can only digest so much at a time. Thanks to all for the great information you put out there. It is really nice to see a forum where you have people of such various backgrounds and different goals just talking about what issues/questions we all have, and everyone is treated with respect. I've been following along, so I decided it was time to join. I have also just switched my dog over to raw, it's only about day 6, but we're leveling out with this new system. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions, so thanks in advance for everyone's openness and assistance.
Sincerely,
Nancy Dresser
(and Sammy thanks you for the new diet!)
A good friend of mine had Akitas 'til they passed of old age. He's been w/out for a couple years and I've been insistent on him getting a pup soon. I think they are gorgeous dogs.
Do you have any pics of Sammy?
Alex
EDIT: Also, huge kudos on rescuing. I'm trying to get my friend to consider that as well.

Edit reason: Rescue comment
I just wanted to see if the photo would come through... hope this works! Thanks for the welcomes. This is my first Akita, although I've had several other dogs. For me, I'm looking for a companion dog, so rescue is a great option. I also have horses, and that is my first love for training, and how I wound up on the East coast (VA) after growing up in the Midwest. I moved 1 mi across the border into WV simply for the tax break! I have had my interest in working more with the dogs peaked more and more, and this forum certainly is an eye opener. I have never purchased "made" horses, as it just wasn't the same as bringing along my own. I see the dog training as the same thing, really. It's about that relationship. I thoroughly enjoy the training process, be it canine or equine. Anyway, I now work for one of the major airlines out here, and pretty much spend every spare second with the 'critters in one form or another. Right now, the fuzzy critter wishes I'd get off the computer and go play with him!
