Wanted to let ya'll know about the derm vet visit June 3rd.
Gracie has a cocci bacterial infection, with yeast present. The vet put her on
fluconazole for the fungus and simplicef for the bacteria.
She also recommended comfortis for fleas instead of a topical because the effectiveness is not very good in this part of the country and it does wash off
when you bathe often.
She gave me Ketachlor shampoo to use twice a week.
We go back in three weeks to reevaluate.
It does seem to her it is environmental allergies.
I am relieved in that it is no longer a mystery. We now have a plan.
Hope the end result is great relief for Gracie.
And Lori, when I bathed her last week I found 2 big fleas on her. Driving her nuts!
Thanks for all your information in your last post. Because of what you posted, I was
ready for the visit with much more good information that the vet found very
helpful in her diagnosis.
Thanks to all of you.
This is probably only the beginning, so please hang in there with me!
I have a flea allergy dog, too. I put her on the Comfortis. She has had no problem with it and it is keeping the fleas off her. Of course, they can still jump on her (and do) but not nearly the way with Frontline. I have had better results with Comfortis than any other I have tried and last year I tried nearly all of them.
The pre-cautions indicated that Comfortis may cause illness for a few days but my dog didn't experience any.

I'm so glad the vet visit went well! Did you like the doctor? It helps so much to let someone else worry about it!! Sounds like she's covering all the bases and I'm glad she didn't jump to putting her on allergy kibble right away! Kasey had to take the fluconazole too - it worked really well. We use Comfortis now too and he seems to be tolerating it fine. If you try it, see if she will let you buy one pill from her first to see if Gracie can take it ok. Our derma vet does that because some dogs throw it up within an hour or two because they just can't tolerate it. If they throw it up that soon, then Comfortis will replace the pill for free, so our vet gives us one more to try it again for free - that way you know if you should buy a whole 6pk of it!
