I've switched my 2 cats over to raw. The one was is a constant battle with a skin issue, so to get them on it quickly I bought the Primal pre-made chicken/salmon mix. That went really well, and her skin issue cleared up great! They've been on it about a month, always the chicken mix. So I bought the beef/salmon mix for some variety. And they puked, like a minute after eating it. The one is a vomit comet, but the one that puked never pukes. Is it possible I got a bad bag? Has anyone had any experience with Primal? If I try feeding homemade raw, any suggestions what I should start with?
Thanks!
Nancy

It could be the beef. I don't feed my cats beef. I would go back to what worked before. You could try reintroduign the new food gradually by mixing a feew spoonfuls with the food that works and gradually work up from there.
For raw feeding cats I use Feeding Your Cats Naturally by Michelle Bernard and info on catinfo.org.
My cats have been on this diet for 18 months and they are doing fabulously with clean healthy teeth, ideal weights, and soft fur. I even brought a starved kitten back from the edge of death with this diet. It works!

I feed my cats raw and they do not get beef. I have tried so many times, and any portion bigger than a finger tip, it all just comes back up (especially any grade below extra-lean). Something about beef that just does not sit well with some cats.
Start with chicken or fish.
If you decide to go with chicken, start with skinless breasts, gizzards, or hearts, and depending on how finicky your cat's digestive system is, move to whole chicken wings, then liver, etc. Cats will and can eat the bones in chicken wings.
If you go with fish, I buy bags of frozen whole sardines where I just chop in half as a meal. You may need to leave out the head if they throw up. With some cats, you may have to start with white fish filets (don't start with salmon). The general idea is the same, you want to gradually introduce new parts until your cat can eat the whole animal.

I don't give my cats beef, either.
Also, many cats seem to be especially sensitive to very cold food. The dog can eat raw that's somewhat frosty but the cats will bring the whole thing right back up.

Thanks for your help everyone! I was able to read at work last night, but couldn't respond.
I just gave some chicken last night, figuring that was the easiest on them, and that went OK.
Is it OK to give the boneless, skinless chicken breasts for a few days? And I have some white fish fillets, too. What is the risk of not having bones in the meal for a few days?

There is very little risk of leaving bones out for a few days. If you can find a meat grinder (I use one I got from Northern Tool- a little pricey but worth it.) then you can just grind the whole chicken. Some people say that the teeth won't get cleaned but honestly, my cats have cleaner teeth than ever before. I only occasionally chunk up meat to put in the ground bones.
And, the name of the book is Rasing Cats Naturally not Feeding Cats Naturally. I am at work, too, and sometimes I am distracted! Congrats on switching your cats. It looks like overall things are going well. Some cats are VERY resistant to change even if it is for the better.

Just a caution about grinding meat for cats. If you feed only ground food, you MUST supplement the cats' diet with taurine. Taurine reacts with exposure to air, so ground food (which has a much larger surface area exposed to air) is deficient. Taurine deficiency in cats is very serious.
