Hi all I have just sat and watched the Developing Drive and Focus DVD in an effort to try and learn how to turn my 1 year old Standard Poodle on.
I have tried both food rewards and toys, but she dosen't seem very excited by either of them, the food she will take slowly from my hand and then slowly eat it, no great enthusiasm about getting it.
And the toys/tuggy/ball she is the same she will take it and have a little play with it but no great enthusiasm, can anybody help me with some ideas here, on what to try to get her more excited about thease things.
My puppy was a little like this at first--I think the main thing
that has improved his excitement is repetition.
As long as you're paying attention to the things Lynne pointed out,
I think! It took me some time to find the 'right' toys for my
puppy. I also keep the toys he shows the most interest in from
him unless I'm 'playing/training' with him, hoping to increase
his interest in them further.
I'm inexperienced, but just wanted to offer some encouragement.
Naomi what does she get excited by? It doesn't have to be a traditional training motivator. I'm just trying to get a feel for your dog. For instance, running or swimming or sniffing the grass, going for car rides etc.
Also, what is her typical day like? Lots of free time or scheduled activity? Do you train her when she is fresh or after exercise?
