My brother-in-law, a Major in the Army, is lying in a hospital bed in Iraq right now. He's not recovering from any battle inflicted wounds, but rather from being electrocuted while washing his hands. With all the preparation he has had for entering a war, I'm sure the last thing on his mind was to be careful when washing his hands.
He was electrocuted due to shoddy work done by KBR. A quick scan of articles points that KBR is not the best or most honest company to do work for our military:
"Jim Childs, an electrical inspector hired by the Army to help inspect U.S.-run facilities in Iraq testified that 90 percent of the wiring done by KBR in newly constructed buildings was done improperly. He said that means that an estimated 70,000 buildings where troops live and work in Iraq were not up to code."
After not hearing from her husband for a few days, my sister just found out about his condition (he is going to be okay). My family and friends are ready to make some noise, and I invite anyone else to join in. I know Mr. Frawley has been active in initiating change before, and if you all have ideas about who to contact, etc., let me know. This is just inexcusable and horrifying all around.
Carolyn, I'm sorry to hear about this. I had seen a report on MSNBC a month or two ago about the shoddy electrical work being done in Iraq and I was appalled.
These are US based companies; I just don't get it...
I am glad that he will be OK...sending good thoughts his way...
That is awful!!!! Almost like "friendly fire" in a way. His life and well being put in danger by his own countrymen because they couldn't do their job properly, and the military couldn't be bothered to find someone competent. This makes me angry!!!
I hope you can "Make some noise" and get something done about this!!!
Thank you Lynne and Angela. It is angering! I suppose part of what is so frustrating about this is not being sure where to turn to do something about it.
I realized I shouldn't say my brother-in-law was electrocuted as he lived through the shock. Unfortunately, there have been 12 soldiers who have been died from accidental electrocution. So sad.
