Great video. People really need to learn some common sense about dogs.
The other day my wife was out walking our puppy, who isn't overly fond of strangers, when a 2-3 year old little girl comes running right up. My wife stepped in the way and told the mom that he wasn't allowed to be pet. Mom's reply? "Oh, I teach her to just run up and hug every dog she sees." WTF?! Then, when her child gets bitten she'll blame the dog and dog owner. My wife laid into pretty good about that.
Cleo, who comes with me EVERYWHERE, is a now a very imposing looking dog (a lean 105 lb Presa Canario). She always walks in a "heel" position at my left hip. Whether we are in a store, on the sidewalk or on a trail, I make it a point to walk with her to the outside of the pedestrian traffic, giving people a clear, wide passage to our right.
I do this for a several reasons: (1) I realize some people are afraid of dogs, so I don't want them to feel uncomfortable by having to pass between Cleo and, e.g., the road, a wall or display case. (2) While I often enjoy talking to people about Cleo ("what kind of dog is HE?"; "really? never heard of that" "how do you get HIM to behave like that" "will you train my dog?" "can I have a puppy from the first litter?" etc., etc.), sometimes I don't have the time for 8 of these conversations on the way from my office to my truck. And, (3) I don't want everyone to do to her what those people in the video do to the workers.
Nevertheless, every single day, people go out of their way to squeeze by Cleo and (the wall, cliff, street, whatever) then ask "Does she bite? Then the conversation begins. I swear, some people are just dumbasses when it comes to dogs.
Wheeew! That feels better Sorry about the rant
BTW, I am going to order a "Working Dog--Do Not Pet" vest from Leerburg this week. Any suggestions? Please keep in mind that we live in Hawaii so coolness and comfort are a premium for my girl.
