If you free feed, don't do it anymore. If you don't free feed, let your dog skip a couple of meals. Then use special treats for rewards like liver treats, boiled beef or chicken. After a few missed meals there should be more of an interest in food.
I think people feed their dogs too much. If you have to feed your dog twice a day, make one meal very small so that your dog is always looking forward to his next meal. Always train before you feed him either meal.

what if the dog doesnt have either the food drivr or the prey drive? How to train these kind of dogs?
Do you have the Marker video? It has a chapter on food-training low-food-drive dogs.
I agree with Sue, and would appreciate details. How often do you feed, what do you feed, and what shape is the dog in? Prey drive can be enhanced too, but let's start here.
Thank you Connie, This is my very first time ever doing a discussion thing like this. I am doing this wrong?? I saw the hijack note and was wondering if that was me? Did I do something wrong and if so, where do I write questions, etc...
Thanks for your help and answer!! I ordered the Basic Obedience DVD and others, and have been to classes using clickers and food, but if I don't have the food (and clicker) on me, he knows and doesn't do it. I'm anxious for the DVD to come!!

Robin, click on the link I put into your posts above and go to your new personal thread. You have hijacked this one (started a new topic in the middle of someone else's thread).
It will all be fine. When you start a new topic, you do it in the "new topic" (blue) box at the top of any forum list page.

Hello Connie,
I am basically a dog trainer. I was training the pet owners dogs before. Now im training the owners to train their pets so that they could know more about their dogs and the way to deal with them. In India there is no respect for dogs nor do the owners have the bond with their dogs. The owners keep their dogs tied and feed them and only take the dogs out to pee or poop. So i dont know the way ppls feed. When i meet the owners i tell them to switch on to royal canin coz some owners dont have to give them the food that is prepared at home. Some trainers hit the dogs and teach them. Those kinds of cases come to me. And these dogs dont show any interest over the food nor the toys.
