We had Matilda evaluated and the trainer gave us the price of $1500 for level one schutzhund and advanced ob. I dont know what this usually runs so any input is greatly appreciated. I havent given any money yet. They do alot of police dog training there according to their website. We didnt talk too long as there was a class about to happen. It would be one on one training. Thanks in advance.
Why not a club? I'm not saying this person is charging to much, for I know it may very well be a fair price, but why not a club? I'd think in your neck of the woods there'd be more then one or two at hand.
In this part of the world two days a week at a local will set you back about 350 to 400 a year. You get to interact with (and get to quarry) other handlers, you get to watch (and learn from) them handling their dog, you get one on one from someone who knows dogs, given directions and protocal.....Two nights/days a week.
If SchH. is where I wanted to go, it'd be to a local club first and then perhaps a private consult for polish and finishing if needed.
The nearest club around here that I have found so far is 2 1/2 hours away. I would much rather use a club. This kennel seems to deal more with protection and that sort of training instead of competing so I will probably keep looking around. There is only one other training center here that I have found so far that does what I want so my options are limited. But I will keep looking.
People often think I overspend, so take my opinion w/a grain of salt, but if this is truly your only option and titling her is important to you, $1500 doesn't sound like much to me. Keep in mind what you would pay for a titled dog her age, and also think of the time invested. How many hours? What does it amount to?
My biggest issue would be trusting someone enough to actually leave my dog there. Unless you mean you keep her and just bring her there for training. That's different.
I would be handling her and she would stay with me. The price isnt super important if its close to what other people pay. Im only going to keep looking bc they seem to be more into protection training which isnt a bad thing, just wont be needing it since we are gun owners
You'd pay a lot more than $1500 for a good titled female, so considering the time invested, I think it's reasonable. What's the problem if they do both PPD and Sch. training? Many people train PPDs similarly to sport dogs- prey/play, etc. Can I ask who you were considering? PM me if you'd rather. I'm just curious.
Im going to go ahead and use them. I think it will be worth it since I believe you get what you pay for, I just wanted to see if it was the norm. Thanks for the input, wish us luck!
That sounds like about what I spend a year. How do they arrive at a flat fee like that Erin? Is there some sort of time frame or limit? Or do they say your dog will be trained to that level no matter how long it takes?
I'm not knocking it, but I am curious what they say you can expect.
