I have been feeding my 3 dogs a raw diet for about 5 months. My italian greyhound vomited up pieces of chicken neck the morning folowing her last evening meal. Should I be concerned about this or is it perfectly normal.

Hi Cheryl,
Are chicken necks a normal part of your IG's diet? Has she had them before and not had any problems digesting them? Was it only the bones that came up and not the whole meal?
If she seems perfectly normal otherwise, and she's had them before without issue, I'd consider it a fluke. If she's NEVER had necks before, you might try them again in a few days and see if you get a similar reaction - some dogs systems are just very particular and you'll learn to avoid things they don't do well with.
My 95lb dog will reliably throw up turkey neck bones - he's fine with any type of chicken bone, and lots of other types of bones, but turkey neck bones come back up... normally in the early AM... so I just don't feed them anymore.
I cannot recall if she has done this before. Have been feeding her necks for several months. Can not think of a bone to use in place of necks.I hobe it is safe for her to eat chicken necks. maybe I will have to grind them

Mine dogs eat chicken & turkey necks, amoung many other bones, with no problems & always have. I have had friends tell me that their dogs have had problems with turkey necks. Not sure if it is maybe just the larger size of the turkey necks & the digesting of them or just the individual dogs. If something doesn't agree with your dog, just don't feed it. There are plenty of other options, bone wise to choose from.

Connie's suggestion of backs is a great one - they'd make a perfect replacement for necks, but if this is the first and only (that you recall) time she's thrown up a little bit of bone, I would not necessarily stop feeding necks altogether. You never know, maybe her stomach was upset by something completely unrelated that day and she was just a little "off"... If it starts to happen regularly, then I'd start switching to another RMB.
Yes backs are EXCELLENT. Except when you dog decides to be part of "The Great Chicken Back Rebellion". LOL - sorry - had to add that as mine is now refusing backs - will eat necks but no backs or leg quarters or livers - basically no chicken. But that could change tonight when I get home.

Like said, there are plenty of options out there. Use what works. Dogs, like people, have personal prefferences. Mine have such high food drive that I could put just about ANYTHING in their dishes & they'd eat it. They make it easy for me. LOL
I think that many of the dogs that have been fed raw from the beginning don't seem to have as many issues with what they like & don't like to eat. I think that if you have what they feel is 'food competition' with multiple dogs in the house that may also make a difference in eating what is put in from of them. Although, with very high food driven dogs I don't think that enters into the equasion.
